Certain planes and frame rates...

Postby TacitBlue » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:57 pm

I have downloaded almost all of Bill Lyons planes recently released as freeware and they all seem to slow down my frames just a little bit- just enough to cause problems. The Piper Apache is the worst one. If I set the VC guage quality to low, then its a little better. I think the problem is the the reflections on the guage faces. Not only are they distracting, they move all the time and I think if I could get rid of them it would save me a few frames. Thoughts? Input?

Think he mentioned the reflections in one of the readme's, more in ref to problems with the window reflections.

You could turn off reflections in your dislpay settings/aircraftab. On my system doing so only yields a 1 or so fps gain.

The other option I guess would be to edit or remove the alpha channel.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

turning off reflections doesn't effect the VC, only the exterior. Guess I'll have to remove the alpha channel? how do I do that?

Dunno, it clears the reflections in my vc (as well as the exterior).

Interesting - I've just been noticing the same kind of thing with 707s. I've been flying some Historic Jetlinert Group 707s and the 2004 updated versions slow the framerates noticeably. Gone back to Lou Volland's and Rok Dolenec's models now.  ;)

:( This reminds me of the payware Cessna Citation X which is harsh on frame rates.

Out of all the biz jets I fly, the X is my fav!!  ;D
Yes she is a  bit hard on frames, but that is why they offer he in a few different models from light to deluxe!

Granted my machine has no issues with frame rates with virtually anything, that is why the deluxe is my bird of choice!

FYI: I too notice a drop in frames on the same Lyons aircraft you mention above. I even mipmapped all the textures so it must be something!  ::)

Before You start getting into the background layers of your bmp files you may want to go to FS9 main menu then to Settings then to Display then to aircraft on that adjustment page you'll see a slider at the top of the page that is your gauge detail slider. Try turning that one down. A problem that I noticed when flying some aircraft (particularily the aircraft that contain hundreds of gauges I.E. F-18E RAAF, and the two seater panel for the F-14B Tomcat) is that alot of gauges will use alot of processing and ram. The usage of these computer assets are intensified with complexity of the gauge. Such as a radar gauge that uses a module I.E. FSUIPC will use many more of your computer resources than one that tells time. My general rule of thumb is if it takes longer to load the aircraft than normal expect diminished video responces and slower frame rates as a direct result.

Hi there. I almost forgot abot this problem. right after I posted this I had other major issues with my computer and never got around to trying to fix this airplane. One thing I remember though is that turning the guage detail all the way down helps with the frame rates, but renders the guages almost unreadable. Things seem fine with my computer now, so I will probably start messing around with this plane again soon. I'm sure I'll figure something out.
