Problems installing FS due to broken CD

Postby Loafing Smurf » Wed Aug 31, 2005 3:17 pm

Hi

I have problems installing FS 2004 because my disk 4 is scratched up. It happened because my CD ROM grinded it up.

Although, I only seem to be missing some files in the "X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery" folder.

Assessing the problem, I found the following.

1) The "WORLD.CAB" file in my FS 2004 disk 4 is unreadable.

Solving the problem, I'll probably have to do the following.

1) Get a copy of "WORLD.CAB"

2) Know how to distribute the files of "WORLD.CAB" into the appropriate directories.

If anybody knows any other way to solve this...I'm open to suggestions.

P.S It seems to be hard finding a copy of FS 2004 in my city.

Send it back to microsoft, and they'll give you a new disk..

Or pop into a local game shop and get them to do a CD restore, it'll cost

Or if the bottom of the disk is scratched try using toothpaste with a very mild abrasive and and rub out the scratch. Rub away from the center of the disk directly towards the outer edge. If the top of the disk is scratched it is only good for a drink coaster. Toothpaste works on cd's also and if you are really patient and don't apply too much pressure while rubbing DVD's also.
