Oh, and give us old guys a break - some of us are still trying to get FS9 working properly, never mind worrying about FSX!

Now there's a thought - different versions of FSX for different target populations:
FSX Civil - Airbuses and Boeings akimbo
FSX Military - blow people up and still land on a carrier successfully
FSX Bushwhacker - low and slow in Alaska

Well, we had Standard and Pro in FS2002!

One possible approach that Microsoft explored....and obviously dropped for the time being........... is the "multiple versions" concept.

...same here.... ;)...!

...which is probably why the whole program goes pear-shaped in the middle of a Multiplayer flight and resets back to the desktop.....or worse still...freezes, and requires a re-boot... :'(...!

Mmm, no military aircraft have been in FS? Obviously we are forgetting the old Sopwith Camel, the Corsair (FS2000?) and the current pair, the Jenny and the Vickers Vimy...

As for the argument for not having them, how many civilian owners fly old military aircraft in their original capacity. Virtually none. They are flown for the enjoyment of the crew and the public. Having said that, 3rd party developers will always produce work up to or over the standard of MS default aircraft...

And if you want, it can even be used as a car simulator, or a boat simulator!

For anybody who thanks Microsoft Flight Simulator should not support military operations check out www.reheat.org  . It is a growing site devoted to military planes and airports in FS.

I personally buy FS to fly small GA and military aircraft and barely ever touch the heavies. I dont know why certain people feel it should only be about one type of flying and be so stubborn about it. A quote from earlier in this thread states

"There are plenty of 'shoot-em-up' GAMES for the other end of the market and it would be the death knell of FS if it started to go in that direction. You might be surprised that folks like me have no more than a passing interest in the F18, the Mirage and many others. We're much more interested in classic aircraft, flying low and slow, procedures, SIDS, STARS, transitions and ILS approaches, challenging things that FS allows us to do at home in our own armchairs, rather than aimlessly blasting around the countryside in a totally uncontrolled way and imagining we're Tom Cruise. "

I don't know why I have to be "aimlessly blasting around the countryside in a totally uncontrolled way imagining I am Tom Cruise" Personally I feel I am blasting around the countryside following procedures and air routes just like you heavy flyers pretending I am Tom Cruise!

There are plenty of people out there that I like to call "FS Snobs" who thank their way of simming is the only way to sim. FS is such a great product because it lets people who fly any type of aircraft simulate "Their" type of flying.  Personally I am glad that microsoft has left the ability for people to choose their type of flying from heavies to gliders and F-14's to ultralights the beauty of this product is we can fly them all. I for one want to keep it that way!

Peace and Respect
MoBay

Well said! :)

What MS have produced is a personal flight simulator for everyone that buys it. The aircraft that it comes with are their just to get you off the ground, show you what is what and what it could be. After that you can put in what ever does it for you. It is getting to be a bit tiring to hear that FS9 is only for civilian flight and that the military people should be stuffed into the "shoot-em up corner".......STOP FS Police, can we scan your hard drive first.  Also correct me if I am wrong, but when we are not busy invading oil rich countries 95% of military pilots do not fire a single round. They are just flying about like the rest of us from A to B. London to LA at 35000 feet to or Nellis to Groom Lake at 350 feet, it is what ever turns you on, it is your computer.  Remember, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. So at the end of the day it does not matter what FS137 comes with, 98% of simmers will junk the standard aircraft and look right off for the their babies, the ones that they have been flying with since FS95.  So put on what YOU want. If people don't like it, well you can't post the finger, but nobody has ever been arrested to what they think (although I would imagine that Tony and George are working on it).
And what does it for me? Any twin, preferably radials. Now that has me sitting on the fence, doesn't it??

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I agree with Matt the ex-pat fly what you want where you want when you want. populate your virtual world however you see fit. It bothers no one else (except maybe the wife).

If it flies in the real world the it can fly in the sim world - even a hot air balloon qualifies for me. ;D

I have the feeling that Microsoft avoids adding European Airliners. Ok, there was an exception in FS2000 with the Concorde but afterwards...

In any case I think an Airbus would be necessary, or maybe two, one classic loike A320 and why not a 380 as it is a matter of discussion. Noone can deny it.

Yep, you're right.   But I think Microsoft works together with  boeing for the flight simulator.  They even promote the 787 on the FS2004 homepage (great chanse we'll see the 787 in FS10 ;)).

Personally I think they shouldn't ignore other major airliner manufacturers coz we all know that Airbus is a major aircraft manufacturer and perhaps the most succesfull in the last decade with the A320 & A330/A340.

Luckily there are enough developers that make excellent Airbus models that are way better than the default FS boeings :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can go and download an A320 for free that is way better than any default FS plane. I mean, I'm no expert here or anything...
