Contrails...

Postby Hai Perso Coyone? » Sun Nov 20, 2005 3:55 pm

Hey there,
I was wondering...if you see here , the contrails are appearing at FL250...why is it that mine only appear at FL300 and nothing before that...I know on my laptop, when I first had FS9, the contrails appeared at FL230...but I don't know how that happened...can anyone elborate?
Thanks,
Ashar  :)

I believe in FS9 that the appearance of contrails depends on temperature so that would probably the reason you see it appear at different altitudes. ;)

I assume, like in real life, they are temperature dependant?  ???

or humidity, as the trails are water vapor

In FS2002 to have a contrail you had to go over FL300, but in FS9 they are temperature dependant. There's a value in the aircraft.cfg (I don't remember which, but I remember it being discussed in the past on some forum) that states the temperature below which a contrail is generated.

In FS9, if you have a trail of vapour or not, it's all a matter of weather. ;)

Set the temperature to about -40 or something stupid. You'll get contrails right after take-off.

On final at Munich Airport ten minutes ago, chilly cold, real world weather. I descended through a snow storm. Look at those trails. I forgot to check the outside temperature, too bad.

I think those trails are an effect specific to that 737. They're like high/low pressure differential/condensation things off of the flap vortex.. Not high-altitude, engine contrails..

Indeed. But they're still condensation trails, so they fit in here.  :)

nice choice of plane there i might say ;D ;D ;D

those vortices are an effect that turns on when you are in a certain range of speed, they have little to do with the hi-altidude contrails.....

those are temperature dependant and they only appear anywhere from FL200~  upwards
