Realistic Taxing?

Postby RapidFire » Sun Nov 13, 2005 12:49 am

I recently had to re-install FS, and I remembered finding a small mod or file or something, that changed the config a bit, so that the friction setting in FS was reduced, and make the taxing ingame a lot more realistic. I wanted to know if anyone knew what this was, and if so, direct me to it. Thanks

how does it make it more realistic? Is turning easier?
Now if something goes without saying, then why do people say it??

It's a Sim1.dll module file. It's a modification of the default module that came with FS9. It simply reduces friction on both the surface and the water. Float planes can move easily with the modified file.

However, the file can have a negative effect on some addons that were tested and based with the default module.

As to where to find it, I have no idea.

There was a small file that could change the speed at which the AI taxiied....I don't know what it was called.... ;)

EDIT: The program is called Taxi Speed....the file name is taxispd.zip...Google the following (minus quote) "FS2004 AI Taxi Speed"....hope this helped ;)

On some planes, particularly the passenger jets, you need a ridiculous amount of thrust to taxi. In real life, just advance the thrust levers till you get moving and then you can almost continue taxi on idle thrust.

I removed this 'friction reducer' after trying it. Firstly it makes stopping on shortish runways very difficult, makes taking off of some aircraft (you try the Jungman) just about impossible and makes the taxi speed problems with turboprops even worse.

Far from a 'realism enhancer' IMO  ???

I use the ground handling gauge for all of my turbo jets/props and jet aircraft as well. You dial in the taxi speed you want and the plane will keep that speed it has a auto arm for landing as well once airborn you set it and forget it.
When you land it will automatically turn on. It works real good. 8)
