Well, Zaphod has a point. Without the system restore, we would all be reinstalling windows after every quirk that FS throws at us. ::)

All I can say is that I've never used System Restore (I couldn't if I wanted to) & I've only had to reinstall Windows twice in almost 7 years. This was due to me messing it up myself & nothing whatever to do with FS or CFS. I reckon to have installed far more addons during that time than any other member of this forum & a lot of these were beta files.

PS. During my 3 years as CFS Editor I personally tested about 90% of the files of all types posted on this site at the time. That's an awful lot of addons.

Sorry Roller Ball I was not trying to blast you. I have used System Restore and have had it rename files that were put on since the last restore. So it did not remove them but you could not use them the way they were, and then when i selected to undo the restore it left the files as they were. SO you are CORRECT it does not say it will do this anywhere so it is misleading. Which I think that is what you were trying to say.
I now make it a habbit to set a system check point before putting on any new files or programs. So far this has seemed to help.
It is definetly not as easy as M$ claims it to be and does not quite function as stated. But it is better than nothing

Oh I also found out if you have two hard drives it will have a system restore on each drive so which one does it use when doing a system restore? WHO knows.
And what ever you do do not delete the system restore on the other drive even if you use it for programs only and have no window files or system files on it. I tried that and lost the ablity to go back before the date I removed the file, even though The other system restore file was still on my system hard drive. Now that is strange.

:)

OK Gary - wasn't sounding off at you at all.

Everyone, like I said, I'm not saying not to use System Restore. Far from it. It's a handy tool
BUT
all I am saying is that for the unwary, is doesn't work in the way it says it does
AND
despite the assurances they give, you can lose work.

I have done (although luckily I still had other copies in a working folder) and I was only trying to pass on my experiences to other people.

That's all folks  ;)

The best thing to do is Partition your hard drive putting windows XP on a seperate partition to FS2004 then turn off system restore on the partition on which you have FS2004. That way when you do a system restore it fixes the operating system but doesn't make any changes to FS2004. The only thing that may change is if you have saved a new flight as it is saved to C:\drive. Apart from that nothing in Fs2004 will change. I have mine setup this way and have used system restore on several occasions with no problems.

Good advise there.
What I do is have a seperate partition for FS-9 and all my other "games" and have sys restore disabled on that partition.
