A couple of little annoyances

Postby FridayChild » Tue Nov 08, 2005 7:37 am

1) when - at some moment during a flight - I display the menu bar pressing ALT, and then I click on a menu, the menu contents stay sticky on the screen until I close the menu bar.
2) in the aircraft selection menu, the mouse pointer disappears when it passes over the aircraft 3d image.
3) if I move the mipmapping slider all the way up, objects start to twinkle very noticeably in the distance.
I just wanted to know if these issues are specific to my hardware (see signature) or common.

Well no.2 is to do with your resolution. If it really annoys you lower it and it will go, you will also gain much better frame rates. But the extra sharpness is rather nice. ;) The same reason may also apply to no.1

Oh and no.3 does that with me too. No-one here has MIP mapping above 4 that I know of.

All of those things happen to me too, and I have never worried about it. As long as the sim runs OK, then you need not worry. ;)

I've got a mip mapping of 7 in the sim with no "twinkling" by turning off anti-ailiasing in the sim and turning on 4x anti-ailiasing and 4x anistropic filtering in my graphics cards settings (should be a little icon at bottm right hand corner of screen)  ;)

these things happen to me as well....

i found that the mip-mapping is the only slider you DON'T want maxed out... it doesn't control any level of detail, it controls the variation of detail over distance

if you set it too high, the sim will display more details than pixels, and they will "twinkle" as they will show different areas of the detail every time....

the best idea here is to adjust it so the detail loss over distance looks natural with your monitor and resolution.... i have it set to 6, using 1024x768x32 res and a 17" flat screen CRT monitor

i didn't know that changing the resolution would fix the mouse dissapearing issue.... that's good information... but now that i think of it, it doesn't bother me so much i would want to decrease my res to fix it....
