Crash when opening navlog

Postby beefhole » Sun Oct 30, 2005 12:00 pm

This is rather odd...

It should be noted that the only thing that I have changed recently in my game was installing the new autogen that was brought to my attention in the freeware forum a while back.  I have done a few flights with it since then no problem.

When I booted up FS today I got the "finalizing setup, generating scenery file indexes" or something, the thing that runs after you first install FS and start it up.  This has happened before, (although not recently) so I didn't think much of it.  When I went into the flightplanning screen and loaded my flightplan, I hit navlog and the sim crashes.  No error message, just straight to desktop.  This happens every time I do it.

Any ideas?

Aww common guys nothin? I kinda needed this sorted out by tomorrow.

EDIT: nevermind fellas.  Seems to have worked itself out.  And earlier I had said "nah, no reason to reboot, I'm sure that won't fix it" ::) ;)

FS9 doesn't seem to be all that robust - there have been a number of threads recently about FS9 crashing for no apparent reason. I have reinstalled my own FS9 after it started crashing and even now it still does it occasionally. I'm at a loss to explain it, so I have to bear with it. My puter is on the edge of what's necessary for it to run (but it didn't crash for 9 months after first installation) and even upping the memory recently  to 1 gig has not solved it.

Did the FS9 designers live in the Bermuda triangle, do you think?

I am completely dumbfounded.  It seems to be crashing completely randomly when I open the navlog-sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.

No navlog=unplayable, can anyone give me a hand?

Yep, same thing here. The last time it happened to me, I loaded the OTHER flight, you know the second save, then put myself back on track, and it worked just fine.

But as of this weekend when I switched planes, it happened again. As a matter of fact I got the same gererating screnery.... but didn't think much about it, as I was flying over Russia for a first time.

Well now you have me thinking, last night while doing an AM flight heading east, sun was just rising. Then about a half an hour or so later, the game paused loaded screnery, traffic and what ever else it loaded I got to see the sun rise again.???? Twice even. I don't get it.

I have not loaded the second save yet, so I'm not sure if it will work two out of two times????

Well Marlin, right now, considering the erratic behavior (sometimes it crashes, sometimes not) I have to assume a corrupted navlog file.  I'm not sure about your other problems, sorry.

Does anyone know where the navlog file is located in the FS9 folder and on the discs?  If I can't find it, I'm just going to have to do a reinstall.

Beefhole, we are now two out of two times.

I loaded the "second" save and readjusted flight plan, bla bla bla, hit F10 while holding my breath, and sure as ^^*% it came up.

Maybe, it'll work for you two?!!!!

Nah, it's come up for me before.  I'll open it again later and it'll crash again.

Does anyone know where the bavlog is located in the fs9 folder and on the discs?

EDIT: I did a search for "navlog", and NAVLOGV.DLL came up in my norton antivirus folder, but not anywhere in my fs9 folders.  Could this be my problem?

It was a couple pages back ;)

And noones answered three times when I've asked.  I know the standard SimV response speed-it's faster n that. :)
