Golden Wings

Is it just me, or is this add-on the greatest thing ever? If you are into vintage planes and scenery, I highly recommend it.http://goldenwings3.com/

Hiya Tacit - be careful or you'll turn into an Olde Fogie like a few of the rest of us before your time.. ;)

I've had in mind to load Golden Wings for a while now but first I had graphics card problems, then system problems and I've now had to return temporarily to a smaller disk that is tight for free space. But as soon as I'm back on my big HD I'll be there with ya  :D

I would love to try it out but I don't know much about it. Is it hard on the computer and will it affect my regular MS9?

It doesn't seem to effect performance. It won't effect your FS9 because before you install it, you have to make a copy of your entire FS, and then rename it to GW3, THEN install the package in the new folder. So, basically when you are done, you have two different sims- one normal, and one set in the 1920s - 1940s. Personally I think that everything looks much better in GW3. New textures for everything, new (old) AI traffic, and the autogen looks much more realistic.

Is it then possible to take the autogen and ground textures and put them in FS9?

I'll refer you to a thread by the GW3 author, Bill Lyons, at the GW3 support forum. http://mainescenery.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=gold&action=display&thread=1125923070

That said, this is a great enhancement to FS for anyone interested in or captivated by the 'Golden Age' of aviation. I for one have very seldom returned to the 'modern' era since installing GW3.

Please read all info discussing installation at the the Golden Wings 3 site, (linked by TacitBlue), the support forum, and the included installation instructions before starting your install.

The addon page was an external, independant site, that recently closed.

Most all addons (aircraft, scenery, etc.) are available from one or more of the major download sites, including Simviation.

For GW3 updates and enhancements, check the home page or the forums.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Hmm. Seems strange how you can't take the GW3 textures. Isn't it exactly the same format? Oh well, if you can't you can't.
