Multi installation

Is it possible to have two installations of FS on a hard drive so that one can have one configuration and the other another. I ask because I have a CH Throttle Quadrant, and I like to fly 2 and 4 engined aircraft. I have at the moment 2 options. Firstly I can reconfigure between  2 and 4 engines in FS. A pain because I fly 2 engines with Pitch and mixture. Or I can take a computer degree in master of the universe level 4002 god mode dungen master CH Control Manager understanding. Rocket science is easier than this program to understand or configure (I am knocking on the door of 40 and not 14)
As the joystick button and axis configuration is very simple in FS and works, this would be the prefered. Also hard drive space is not a question.  I only used my computer for email and FS9.  160Gig stores a lot of email........................

I do not know, but a 'dedicated machine' means just that to me; from my experience of working across drives I would not recommend having two installs of FS9 on the same machine.

But -- as always -- your call captain.

P.S. I won't even partition another drive :-) . . . so you can figure out where my head's at . . .

Aren't all the settings, cgf, etc.. for FS stored in a user's documents folder ?

Couldn't you set FS to be run by different users with their owns configurations ?

I have four installations of FS9 on my machine.

All you need to do is create a new installation (see below)
and then just rename the executable and it will create a .cfg
file with the  same name... fs9_clean.exe/fs9_clean.cfg

Then just make shortcuts to each renamed executable and
you're set.

The scenery.cfg file is contained within each installations root
directory so you can have multiple environments...I have
FS9_USA and FS9_Europe installs, however I have a common
"scenery" and "addon scenery" set of directories so that they
aren't duplicated. The scenery.cfg file allows you to point to
the directory where the various elements reside, so they can
be anywhere on your hard drive(s).

Probably the easiest way to begin the "duplication" process is to
simply copy your current install to a new location and then start
customizing it once you have renamed the fs9.exe file. The first
time you run that version it will create a new .cfg file. You might,
however, wish to simply make a copy of the original .cfg and
rename it ( C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.cfg)

Paul, if you can do four, then I should be able to do two. I will give your instructions a go. Also forgot to say that my 160 Gig is two 80's

That would involve logging out/in each time you wanted to switch.
Also, you'd have to create the same FS environment availability
for any addons/tools/etc in each account. I was going to use this
method initially, however it was too much trouble to "re-create"
the same environment over four accounts.

In my case, I have four icons on my toolbar...I simply single-click
the one for the verion I wish to run....all the things I normally access
are still available without having had to do alot of "tweaking"
when creating alternate accounts....4 in my case...
