FS 2k2 GPS in FS 2k4

Postby Gringo6 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:04 pm

I've bought FS 2k4 and have installed the patch - but I don't like the GPS in it as well as I like the GPS in FS 2k2.
It's too cluttered up with all the small airports and I just get a pink smear over a large area.  There are probably 250 small dirt air strips etc. within 50 miles of D FW, and it shows them all. If I choose to not show these airports it also doesn't show the large major airports.

Can I just rename the .gau file in 2k4 and cut/paste the 2k2 .gau file and have it converted ?

Am I the only one who is less than enchanted with the new GPS in 2k4 ?

I do a lot of 'flying' over monutainous areas, and I find that the good thing about the FS4 version is that it shows the terrain.

You'll find that pressing 'CLR' clears the 'clutter'. Once or twice to thin it out, three times leaves it only showing your 'target' airport.

Something else that won me over to the 2004 GPS is the fact that you can get all the information about any airport and navaid without having to stop the sim to go look at the map.

give it some time to get used to it.. :) It really is much more realistic compared to the 2002 version....

Of course it all beats going back to VOR-VOR in the really old versions! :) Of course vor-vor in 95-98 taught me how to navigate on isntruments..:)
