Problems with Beaufighter

Postby Zaphod » Mon Oct 10, 2005 10:24 am

Hi all.

I've downloaded a Bristol Beaufighter (beau_f_x.zip) and also a flight dynamic "fix", (beau_fix.zip,) both from this site and no matter what I do I can't get the elevators or rudder to respond. As you can imagine this makes it almost impossible to fly!
I'm using a Sidewinder precision2 joystick which works fine with everything else.
The plane looks pretty good so any help appreciated!

Many thanks.
Zaphod.

Sorry everyone but I appear to have posted this twice..
Perhaps a nice Mod will save my blushes and delete one?

Cheers.

You could delete the other one yourself, as its had no replies, so just click remove (next to quote and modify)

Hi Zaphod. Tell me exactly where to find this Beaufighter & the update & I might be able to check it out for you. I need the file names & the page numbers they're posted on. No direct links to the files please. I'm on dial-up so anything over 10 Mb & my offer is void. ;)

i have your exact model of joystick.

have you calibrated it? if not, go to control panel>game controllers>Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2.

click properties

in the tabe, click test. hit all buttons, move throttle, and move joystick in all directions (as well as a working rudder) the arrows should do to the ends of the screen when joystick is moved to max positions.

if that is working properly, then it is most liekyl a software issue.

Cheers Guys..
The downloads are on page 42 of the 2004 vintage section and are;
Beau_f_x.zip
Beau_fix.zip, which you are directed to via the Mk21 download on the same page.
I'll check the calibration of my joystick.

OK. Now the dog can see the rabbit. ;)

It might take me a while & depends on the file size. If this is the only aircraft you have this problem with I very much doubt that it has anything to do with your joystick. If you suspect that, then disconnect it & try controlling the Beaufighter with the keyboard commands.

PS. I note that this Beaufighter is by Mr. Ito who is an experienced & respected FS developer. I'm downloading it while I type.  I can only say that I've never had a problem with any of his other aircraft that I've tried.

Righto. I've tried the Beaufighter TFX (B_Fighter_TFX.zip) in FS9, both with & without the update (beau_fix.zip) & both versions seem to function correctly as far as elevator & rudder are concerned, visually & aerodynamically. It's a very nice piece of work & seems to perform very well. I'm using an original M$ SW Pro which I suspect is much older & far more abused than yours. I tested it on the default Sensitivity settings so I can only presume that the problem is at your end.

OK..

Thanks for the help Hagar.

I'll take a look at "my end". oh er, and let you know.
I don't believe it can be a joystick prob as it's fine with everything else. I'll try deleting the Beaufighter and re-installing.

Well, I've deleted and reinstalled the aircraft, both with and without the "fix" and it makes no difference. The rudder and the elevator dont work! Ailerones are fine.
I've recalibrated my joystick, although I don't think it needed it as it's fine with everything else.
I've downloaded loads of stuff and never had this problem.

HELP!!!

When you say they don't work, do you mean the animations or that you can't take it off or control it? The aircraft works fine for me & if this was a problem with your FS9 or joystick all your other aircraft would be the same. Are you sure you didn't leave the autopilot switched on before trying the Beaufighter? Even if it has no autopilot FS9 has no way of knowing that.

Both.
In spot view the rudder and elevator don't move, althougth the allerons do, and , even with max elevator trim it won't lift, and with a slight crosswind I can't correct with the Rudder.
If it didn't look so good, I wouldn't bother.

There's most likely a very simple explanation that you've overlooked. When was the last time you flew a default aircraft? I suggest doing that now to see if it has the same problem.

I've just taken my default C172 for a spin from EGKH (Headcorn/Lashenden,UK) on a short circuit, after first checking all control surfaces (like you do). Bit of a rough landing, but I'm getting stressed!
