Postby lim » Thu Oct 06, 2005 9:49 am

hey....i'm new to this thing about scenery. not too sure whats its really about. yup...just wanted to ask: is it possible to install sky tunnels for every airport, to make it more realistic, in both FS 2004 and 2002? we seldom see airports without these things

Heya lim,

I'm not really sure but I think you're talking about these??

If so, I believe that the correct name is Passenger Boarding Gates, and yes, there is a way to place them into your FS 2004 airport scenery.

There are many scenery programs that you can use to place Passenger Boarding Gates into FS 2004.  I mainly use two programs -- Runway 12 and Lago's Flight Simulator Enhancer.

The first program, Runway 12 is freeware available at most websites.  It is extremely user friendly and doesn't require a lot of research into *.xml, *.Bgl, and SCASM files to use.

The second program, Lago's Flight Simulator Enhancer comes in a Demo (free) package, however, you have a limited amount of scenery objects that you can place with it.  If you purchase the upgrade (like I did for about $30.00 US) you can place an unlimited amount of scenery items.  This program is also very user friendly.

Both of these programs come with an extensive amount of objects that you can place into your scenery.  There are also many free objects library addons out there that you can add to both of these programs to further enhance your scenery.
Happy Flying -- And may your main wheels always touch down first!

thought the name was passenger jetways...
w/e

rwy12 (most commonly spelled) is a good addon program, just like graycat said.

After a quick site search I found Rwy12 posted in the Scenery Design section right here.
FS2004 Scenery Design - Rwy12 Object Placer Program
I assume this is what you're referring to although I haven't tried it myself. Most of these utilities come complete with instructions & an installation program.

Sky Tunnels, passenger boarding gates, passenger jetways, what ever they are called, in the real world that is just too long for conversation.  We just call them "fingers"

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Just bear in mind lim that if you start adding too much eye candy be prepare for frame rate hits wherever you add it at.  I recommend a good vid card.

one more question, if i may ask - Sometimes, the aircraft is placed right in front of the building, or maybe, there are others beside it. How do I just back the plane out? As far as I know, there are vehicles in real life that do just that. The aircraft can't. Any suggestions?

Shift+P to push back
Shift+P+1 or 2  to steer while pushing back, but the steering isn't immediate, it takes a few seconds.

I have a Nvidia 6600 GT, which is the value priced version of the 6800.  It's a good unit and I have it over clocked to base 6800 speeds right now.  I spent nearly $200 on it with the trade of my former card, a radeon 9200 SE.  Big difference.  If you can't deal with a shop that will give trade in credit, than the 6600 would come in at nearly $250 currently but it was almost $300 when I bought this one.  I may go and trade it up to an agp version of the 6800 after Christmas or maybe not.  I can get 28 fps average in areas like  ORD, JFK, ATL, DFW, etc. with full traffic and settings at mid levels.  The only advantage I can see by stepping up to the 6800 is the same frame average with everything on max.  Oh, and as for push back,  if you find the key commands a pain in the butt, check in the gauge catagories here or over at avsim and you will find a number of gauges just for push back control.  In fact, some of them even have taxi and ground cart power simulation as well.
