Delete the fs9.cfg file [back it up first] and restart FS9. FS will automatically create a new fs9.cfg file and hopefully restore itself back to its original settings.

From what you are saying, have you tried moving the Water slider to the far right in the Display menu of FS? If so, is the slider automatically moving back to the center on its own? If so, then your video card might not be compatible with DX9.

You can use FS9 without DX9 driver, but FS9 will not give the full benefits of the graphics without it. You have two options:

1. Stick with your current video card and get use to the medium setting of the water detail.
2. Spend some money [a considerable amount] and buy a new video card that is DX9 compatible.

I had the same problem you had after I did the exact same thing that you did.

Like I said before, I did the same thing you did with the cfg file when I had a video card that was DX9 incompatible. My advice, tweak down the values in this section of the cfg file:

[GRAPHICS]
FULL_SCREEN=1
PERFORMANCE_MODE=0
DEF_PERF_MODE=6
TEXT_SCROLL=0
AUTO_LOD=0
DETAIL_TEXTURE=1
WATER_EFFECTS=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_MAP=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_OBJECTS=1
...........
...........

Where it says "WATER_EFFECTS=" change the value to "1" and save the file. Restart FS9 and the problem should go away.

If everything, returns to normal, don't push the graphics like that anymore. You'll get stranger results.

What happened was that FS9 was attempting to create the reflective water effects by extracting processing power required to make the terrain. But since the water is also part of the terrain, both the water and the terrain resulted in what you were seeing. This happens when you have a DX9-INcompatible video card.

Ok i have 2 computers that i use fs2004 with... the one that got messed up was my dell 2400 series with p4 (r i think) and all the other crap... i think the card is just a regular one that comes with it..............
My other computer is a dell 8200 with 1.7 GHz with an origanal sound card but it has an nvidia GEforce 5500Fx.

Is that dirict x 9 compatible and will it run those golden eagle squadron water effects..
thanks BH233
