I think M$ should stick with the bulged-cylinder concept. If you look at Orbiter, a complete sphere might cause a sudden CTD [crash to desktop] because of the rendering of the top and bottom vertices of the sphere. I wouldn't want to see my computer go CTD while doing a pole-to-pole flight.

It don't bother me, everyone has to have some humor sometime.  ;D

I like 2004 but if 2006 revolutionizes like 2004 did over 2002 (graphics wize) I think I might be a sucker and get it. But I think I won't be getting 2006 until about 6 or 8 months after it is released to see what developers have done with it!

I think that is how it was with FS2002, I stayed with it faithfully until I started seeing tons of addons created for 2004 that looked way better then what I was using in 2002. I think I was sold on how the aircrafts body looked more plastic molded and the metal looked more realistic on the aircrafts!
Its only in your mind, strong mind, strong soul and nobody can take that from you!

:)
From what I know ( which is limited to the gb installed in my cortex) I thought that this is the last (2006) upgrade of flight simmulator. What ever happened to the Longhorn, foghorn leghorn project that the micro clones where working on I have no idea. However I would be happy with the current version fs9 because I will be 454 years old before I get all the downloads around now installed.! Let alone a new version with its limited advances, the last thing I would be doing is spending $120-$150 that I think they will market it at.
The people that really care about the fs series is the simmers themselves, and they have one of the best platforms available now so why bother. I bought fs98 for about $35 which is worth about 35 cents now, I upgraded to 2002 for about $80 odd
which is worth at least a dollar now, and of course purchased fs9 at the rrp of $99.95. If anyone thinks this is not a money making excersise I am liable to call you a pac man ;D

Well, FS10 will be comming out and Longhorn will. Microsoft have stressed that. It is just patience. ;) I just hope that the delay will make the whole wait worth while and that what is let out will be decent.

I hope 2006 will address the flight modeling short comings we've always had.  MS needs to adopt something like X-plane's blade element flight modeling which automitcally anylizes an airframe's geometry and specified engine output and produces a 99% correct flight model.  That's why it has FAA certifications.  So many real world pilots now also use FS and or X-plane.  If MS is planning to keep their FS franchise alive then FAA/CAA desktop training endorsement should be a primary goal for the title.  And yes, it would still be affordable.  X-plane is.  Also, atc should be improved to allow for emergency declarations, altitude  requests, and course change request, (ie, due to weather), declaring a missed approach, and possibly voice imput.
