Trans-Atlantic Flights

I'm not sure if this is just a mistake in the game, but everytime I try set up a flight plan, for example, from London to New York, they flight plan sets up a path from London, across the North Atlantic, across Canada, to Alaska, and then back across Canada and the Northern U.S. to New York.  It does not matter which direction I am going, it always does this.  Does anyone have a cure, or at least some tips?

That is a mistake.

Delete the offending waypoint(s) in Route Window and carry on. The FS9 Flightplanner is generally very good and for NATs usually selects a close-to-realworld path.

No, it is NOT a mistake.

There are no HAAWs (High-altitude-airways) that carry directly over the Atlantic ocean, unlike the Pacific.  There are proper routes to follow, however.  If you zoom out and take a good look at the airways, you will notice that they create funnel points.  Certain intersections are used as entry points, others as exit points.

So, plot the course using direct GPS, and then manually select points along the airways.

...or get for yourself a REAL flight planner, there are some that are quite good (and freeware too) and don't make the kind of mistakes the default flight planner does.

Well, I know from experience that doing it point by point is not only troublesome and tedious, but somewhat hard to get it right on.  So I think I 'll try a flight planner.  Thanks guys!
