Pilot Log Not Saving

My FS9 is not logging my flight time. It is set up to save to my   own Log, but when I quit the simulator, instead of logging the time it tells me it can't find the log file.
I have tried reinstalling on the off chance, but no luck.
I used the standard installation path.
I am not using the no-cd patch or the official patch yet, and haven't  got any add-ons installed yet, though I have Gigs of add-ons in FS2002 (which is installed on another PC).
Help would be much appreciated.

I have had this problem before, and this is what I did to correct.

The error message was some thing like, could not find log file 870-s0sjj or whatever.

I went to the FS9 cfg file and found where it said LOG_FILE=8907jkla (or whatever) and changed it back to say   LOG_FILE=LOGBOOK.

Now I use only the default log and have not changed the name, to lets say Marlins log book. Now whenever I have this problem, I only lose the time for the flight that I have just flown.

I lost over two months worth of log time because of this problem until I decided to sit down and figure why.

Right, this has puzzled me for years now - I remember posting about it some two years ago but never got a definitive answer.
My fs9.cfg got messed up a lot. Not only would the logbook name change, a whole lot of other entries would get overwritten with lines like "2@#$%G@$%^" etc. Or with absolutely nonsense values. Most of the time FS9 seems to ignore those entries and use default values. But every now and then it will cause big problems with display settings, CTD's or a refusal to even start up. I have used backups of my fs9. cfg regularly when the thing would crash or refuse to start at all.

Now the funny thing is - as soon as I disabled the "log flight time" option it stopped doing this. It has never even happened again. Later on I found in some forums that other people had the same solution.

So, why does it happen? Dunno. Seems nobody does. But you better check your fs9.cfg for other funny entries and reset them.

I never found a spreadsheet that has a chrono function I use a watch instead. But then again, I live in Holland so maybe I missed something

Just in case someone doesn't know; by disabling the "log flight time option" you only lose the automatic process of starting and stopping the stopwatch. I found this function useless anyway because it starts counting as soon as you start a flight in FS. If you sit idle at the ramp for hours this gets logged as flight time.....not very realistic imho.
I start my stopwatch when releasing the parking brakes for taxi, and stop it when setting parking brakes at the gate or ramp.

I used FS9's logbook up to and including about the twentieth time it toasted my fs9.cfg file. I quit using it a year-and-a-half ago and have not had one corrupted fs9.cfg file since.

Well I still use the logbook, just don't use the automatic flight time logging. You can enter your flight time after your flight simply by selecting options/logbook.

I have found that when fs9 glicks stutters then spews up the blue screen or freezes, I have to go and change the log file thing.

After I have found this solution, there hasn't been any problems with the log.

In my opinion, it isn't the log book that messes up the fs9, it is the fs9 that messes up the logbook. So by changing it back everything is sync.

As far as logging time, I didn't know that if you stay parked the clock stays running. Well I never spend enough time on the ground anyways !!!
