How do I add reflection?

Postby gpktm » Sat Sep 24, 2005 6:38 pm

How do I add reflection. specularity (shine), etc? (I'm speaking for an aircraft)

Also how can I see the texture map, do I need a tool or something to download?

For the shine, go to Options -> Display Options -> Aircraft -> and click "shine" or whatever it says.

As for the second  part, I have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

lol..yes as Rimshot says but the actual word is Reflections.....check the box.

If you want to open the texture bitmaps then get DXTBmp which will allow you to open and change these extended bitmaps ..once you have mastered the simple technique that is. Download it from here on SimV....commoner ;)

One thing to bear in mind. Not all aircraft have reflective textures. If this option was not defined in the MDL file when the aircraft was originally created there's nothing you can do about it.

Yes, that's what I ment Hagar. Can you tell how to modify the MDL file, Do I have to download any tools?

That is only half true. Aircraft reflection can be defined in the Aircraft textures(Repaint) as in alpha layers. To add reflection's to the aircraft. like on some of my repaints I have areas on the aircraft that are chrome and I don't mean the color chrome I mean it actully looks like real chrome. Like a mirror.

I still say that option has to be defined in the MDL during export or reflective textures simply won't display. This would also depend on whether the aircraft was created in FSDS2 or Gmax. I'm not sure if it's possible to add reflections later by hex-editing the MDL. I've not seen it mentioned anywhere but I've lost touch with most of this stuff.

That would be difficult without knowing:

1. If it's possible

2. How it's done

It'd be helpful to know exactly what you are trying to do and with what aircraft. That way maybe someone with knowledge of repainting or 3D modeling can check the airplane and help you out.

I downloaded a Cessna Mustang and it's very cool from inside (panel)  but I don't like from outside so I want to improve the texture, add reflection  and some details in the mesh file which I guess it's the MDL file.
