to continue where john left off...

Microsoft also leave flight sim to a basic and open so that developers can create stunning scenery, new aircraft, and etc... they do it to for a few reasons, one of them being that the flight sim payware market is pretty good. it's practically a whole other world. Microsoft also left it open for new options in the coming game, what to people want, what don't they want, what new technology or software can make this run better.

if they shove all that into the game, it'll be in the hundreds, and I bet you it would be around 7-8 CD's for a basic install. not to mention the amount of space required for the game. and to top it of, a smaler maket for third party expansion.

FS004 is fine just the way it is. if you want omething done, do it yourself.

hence why i create new AFCAD's for airports.

I agree as well.

It is better for M$ to just make a shell of the sim and add in new features. Keyword: Features. [ie: AI Traffic management, ATC management, etc.].

The rest of us, the FS Community, then add in all the eye candy we can make. Ever since the AI system was introduced, Project AI emerged as the number one site for realistic AI airlines and AFCAD files. Since real-world weather system came along, payware programs like WeatherMaker and Active Sky became big business.

Well I have seen this topic time and time again, and I have two responses.

1. FS10 Will porbibly be a patch for FS9 that deals with AI / ATC / Wether / Terrain / Etc.

2. The graphics for the new game will be much more intense, therefore no more intagraded users, and no more Fx5500 / Radeon 9250 users. Technology is changeing my friends, and its also getting more expensive. Cant afford a RAM / Processer / Graphics card update? Well looks like your not playing then.

See I used to not mind these threads until they poped up every two to three weeks. And every time there are the same posts "I really hope that they dont beef up the game too much, cus I cant afford a new GFX card" or "I hope that they get PMDG and Flight 1 to work with them so that the sim is amazing". Well let me tell you that I (along with many others) have the addons that you have suggested go into FS10, and my FS9 folder is 33.9 Gigs. That would be 9+ CD's in the box to install. So here is what you should do

1. Start saving your pennies for a 7800GTX or X850 XT PE, and a new processer (64 bit enabled)

2. Just wate for microsoft to release some news or screens for the new game.

And now that my rant is over, here is your thread back

Cheers

I would sooner see them upgrade FS9 than release a whole new game when there is not much demand.

That way, new users would be attracted by the updated version, but users who don't want to/can't upgrade won't be left out.

I agree on that as well.

Like I said before, M$ provides the shell [at a price], and we provide the beautiful pearls [for free]. Easy.

I also do believe the next version will be a large upgrade for FS9. Here are some photos Microsoft showed this past weekend at the Avsim convention of what FS9 can do when upgraded to DirectX 9 (currently coded for DX8)...
>----------- linked images deleted FJR ---------------<

While I was at the presentation, I did not take the photos. Someone who shall remain unnamed did.

I can imagine the Slide-Show effect taking place on my laptop with that level of detail. ;D

Ridge - those images - and practically the descriptions, appear to have been those taken by Tom Gibson/FFDS and were posted to his personal site - california classics - with the permission of Tom Allensworth.

I found the presentation interesting in that it shows Microsoft's thinking, and possibly direction, of the next variation of MS.

From a designer's point of view, Microsoft has to contend with the fact the the gmax code is "frozen", and will not be updated.  On the other hand, Microsoft still has not used the full potential available in gmax (use of bump maps, for example), so there is room for Microsoft to develop the converters.

Like CFS3 you do not need to buy the latest flight sim that comes out. I mean obviously you all have FS9 and while it is not without its flaws, surely its not so bad it needs immiedate replacement.

I look forward to FS10 but if it don't work with my system it will sit on the shelf in the shop till my system works with it. :D

P.S. If its not a big step forward it will stay on the shelf period ;D ;D ;D

Ok everyone the latest scoop I read about the next version of FS came from the AVSIM forum. It seems M$ will indeed have a new version of FS but it will not be relased untill the new windows comes out. Probably next year some time.

Yes you heard right another version of windows will be out soon.   8)

So basically, no Update Patch. Typical of M$. ::)

However, I think I see the reason. To add in features such as reflective wet runways and bump-textures as well as light rays from clouds and aircraft may obviously require the M$ development team to rewrite the entire flight sim code. Therefore, an udate patch might not be a good idea considering the possible REINSTALL of FS9 [plus the reinstall of all of your 100's of addon aircraft and scenery that you already installed over the months].
