English aircraft, registration letters for ATC...

Postby Fozzer » Thu Sep 15, 2005 2:31 pm

Here's an interesting little problem for you to solve... ;)....!

Over here in England the registration letters painted on our GA aircraft start with the letters G-Bxxx.
These are the letters which appear on our fuselage*....
...and also our call sign for ATC...
The trouble is, in the Flight sim, ATC call out "Golf hyphen Bravoxxx"... :o...!

Is there a way of preventing the word "hyphen" from being called out during radio communications... ;)...?

Our American Cousins don't suffer from the same problem with their registration letters/numbers eg: Nxxxxxx

There you go...sumfin' to get your teeth into...:D...!

Cheers all...

Paul ....G-BFOZ...8)...!

* in certain aircraft designed to show the details on the aircraft, after typing the ATC info in the box... ;D...!

Note: The word "Hyphen" should not be confused with the word "Hymen"... ;)... ;D...!

I just write the registration without the hyphen in the aircraft details box when selecting the aircraft

eg. Instead of G-BTWD I would insert GBTWD

I know nothing about radio procedure but think in real life you would identify yourself as Oscar Zulu.

But....the letters on the Fuselage would appear as GBTWD rather than the correct G-BTWD...!

When you type your tail number into the ATC box in the sim, those are the letters which appear on your Fuselage, .....and they also become your ATC call-sign... ;)...!

Paul...G-BFOZ....(not GBFOZ)... ;)...!

I don't think applies to most 3rd party aircraft. Try another plane.

Hmmm. Then you couldn't choose your registration, like most of us lesser mortals. ::) :P ;)

PS. You could always repaint it. ;)

Ahhh yes, I get your point Paul! When flying the default aircraft this is slightly more complicated! ;D

Indeed. I did that the other day for the first time. Charlie is now the proud "owner"/pilot of K5054... :)

Not if you repaint the plane properly it doesn't. That's a special feature on some 3rd party aircraft only - I think. ::) You could probably remove it & paint the letters on permanently. Don't ask me how cos I've never tried it & I don't use ATC anyhow. We didn't have such things as radios in my day. :P

PS. Break out a bottle of plonk as Ozzy suggested. You'll feel much better. Trust me. ;D
