Can I do this...

Postby cspyro21 » Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:34 am

....in a Howard 500?
Well people, I'm restarting my RTW flight in a Howard 500. Only problem is that I'm not sure of its range and whether it can last the length of some of my route.
Here it is:-

Thanks, suggestions would be obliged.
Cheers  ;)

Good aircraft, but you really should do performance tests, fuel endurance tests, ect before flying an unfamiliar aircraft like that around the world. I always do when I cross a pond in a prop aircraft ;)

You're not stopping by greenland?

It can't be as bad as my attempt in an AG-14 XD. If you want, just to be safe, add some auxilery tanks into the aircraft to give it that extended range.

If you fly her right she has good range, I've done from just west of London to Athens and in her and still had fuel to burn ;)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Thanks for your comments guys,
Esselbach, I will do a few more tests as I have flown her for a while before now, and maybe I'll re-direct over Greenland to save some fuel  ;D
Winged-one, if I need to I'll add some aux tanks to it,
Brute, I will look into this.....
And Ozzy, I'm glad I know who else is flying a Howard. Just one question, do you remember just how much percentage of fuel you had left?
  Thanks guys  :D
