No gauges

Postby expat » Fri Sep 09, 2005 9:25 am

Never repair something that is not broken, so what did I do, fiddled about. >:(
Decided to thin out my aircraft folder. It was full of stuff that I no longer fly with. So I deleted what I did not want, however I did not touch the FS stock aircraft.  Started FS and then had no, or very few gauges in all aircraft that I tried. I am running XP, so I used the waste basket function to put all back. Nothing changed. Checked the gauges folder, all is therer. I have just lost, I think the linking to the gauges folder. Any ideas. :-[ :-[

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Mighty strange, the deleting of aircraft should not endanger the gauges.

Try to roll back you system with the system restore to a date previous this strange behaviour.

I thin out my hangar every now and again to reduce the number of un-used aircraft I have to scroll through to locate the particular aircraft I require at the time...
But for safety, I put them in a spare Folder, and tuck them away somewhere safe, in case I need some of them back again...!
...I never delete, or move my large selection of gauges, tho'...they don't take up a lot of room...and you will need them, one day...trust me...  ;)... ;D...!

Cheers all...!

Hi Guys thanks for the input.
I have tried rolling back my system, still the same problem.
I only deleted the aircraft folders that I no longer wanted. I did not touch the gauges folder. I am at a loss right now.
If I end up re-installing, is FS smart enough not mess with the aircraft that I have in my folder, other than possibly fixing my gauges problem. Also what about my extra scenery, some was downloaded payware. Will I loose that??

I use FS manager to disable the aircraft I don't need. All it does is rename "Aircraft.cfg" to "Aircraft.SLEEP".

Before wiping FS away to reinstall it, try extracting the default gauges from the CD's and copy them (overwriting if necessary) into the gauges folder in your current FS, then try using a default plane to see if the gauges show or not.

If they show up, it means that somehow the gauges were deleted, if not... well, it's something serious.

Try to make sure that the gauges folder name has not being changed somehow, too.

The easiest way to manage your 3rd party aircraft is to create a New Folder in FS9\Aircraft & drag them into it. You can rename the folder to Hangar or anything you like & use more than one hangar if you wish. Reinstalling them is a simple matter of moving them back again.

Now for the missing gauges. Are you sure it's the gauges & not the complete panels? Check the FS9\Aircraft folder for a subfolder named fsfsconv. If it's missing you found the problem as many 3rd party aircraft are aliased to the generic panels it contains.
