Jet Routes

I searched for an answer to this question, but couldn't fine anything.  I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that you can't choose your own Jet Routes to follow... default flight planner assigns them for you and you can't change them?!?!  Am I right?

You can edit the route in the flight planner. Either by adding/deleting waypoints.. or.. if I remember correctly. you can actually click and drag the route to different waypoints..

Yeah, but I was asking is there a way of making it navigate via a Jet route without having to go in and manually drag the route line to each individual way point on that "highway"?

When making the flight plan; make sure 'IFR' is checked; then select 'High Altitude Airways'. That's the best I can come up with.

That is correct

Logic would dictate the only way FS9 Flightplanner can build a High Altitude (HA) or Low Altitude (LA) route is by utilizing the airways and jetways in its database.

We live in an imperfect world but FS9's flightplanner is adequate (the best?) for my flightplanning requirements.

Fly High and Prosper . . . and oh yes, don't run into anything :-)

haha, thanks for the replies, but not exactly what I'm looking for.  Say it assigns J89... but I want to fly on J68.  How would I be able to change that?  Is there a way?

I think you have to use an "external" flight planning program for that.  Ther were just two new ones added to the SimV library in the past few days.  Bith freeware I think.

Then there is FSNav... which is payware.

Yes. Edit the FS9 flightplan as outlined in these posts or as instructed in the FS9 Learning Center. It reads in part regarding editing flightplans on airways and jetways:

"To add waypoints to a route:

Drag the red route line to a navigation facility, navaid intersection, or airport on the map that you wish to include in your route.
-or-
Click on any navigation facility, navaid intersection, or airport along the red route line. The Facilities dialog box will appear with a list of waypoints (VORs, NDBs, intersections, and airports) near the point you've chosen.
Select the waypoint you wish to add to your route from the list in the Facilities dialog box.
Click OK.
Click Save to save your flight plan again.
You must save the Flight Plan again before the added waypoints will appear in the Navigation Log.
Note: If your route is along an airway, hide the airway lines before you attempt to drag the route line. To hide the airway lines, click the airway icon at the top of the map."

P.S. The 'J' icon is for jetways

I think what maddriver is after is being able to create a flightplan directly by entering text identifiers for the nav references, the intersections, and the SIDS / STARS.
