Nav lights problem

Postby Midnight_LS1 » Sun Aug 28, 2005 3:00 am

I'm trying to update the nav lights because the ones supplied with FS9 is way too weak.

So I went to avsim.com and downloaded nav_light_package.zip

I installed them where the default nav lights are in the effects folder
(figured it out by going to default Cessna 172 and B737_400 aircraft CFG under the [Lights] section)

The ones I want to use was from the nav_light_package.zip, I renamed them to match the original and overwrited them in the effects folder which are:

fx_navgre.fx
fx_navgrec.fx
fx_navgreh.fx
fx_navgrem.fx
fx_navred.fx
fx_navredc.fx
fx_navredh.fx
fx_navredm.fx
fx_navwhi.fx
fx_navwhih.fx

Then I checked out by loading the planes at night, they work fine on the default planes and those that go by the default names.

Midnight,

Please go look at the rules for posting screenies in the freeware screenshot forum - you'll have one of the mods down on you like a ton of bricks for linking pictures from another site!

Some planes have the nav lights hard coded in at the model construction stage. You can amend this by locating replacement effects lights at exactly the spot where the originals are but it can get fiddly getting them in the right place. There's no reason that the add on effects shouldn't work with the planes you mention.

Thanks for the info, I tried uploading to to simvitation image server and only the cessna 172 image showed up, nothing else worked.
I'll try again in a bit.

As I was thinking about this when they did it in the model construction stage, it's because of the wing flex so the lights move with the wingtip as it flexes.

However if I attempt to put the lights there, it would be out of place when the wings flexes.  And it would been tendious trying to locate them in the right spot.  The only way I know is by trail and error.

Yes, the POSky A330 and 747 both suffer from this: on the ground the wing lights hover some feet over the ends of the wings! I can't think of a way round it, using effects files.

The problem has been solved!!!

The aircraft listed above uses the lights textures from the Taxi-ways and runways!!!

So when the wings flex, the lights goes with them too!

The Airport light upgrade V2 fixes it.  You can control the brightness of the lights with FS9.CFG file.
