Strobe Light Blinking Delay

Postby Hai Perso Coyone? » Thu Aug 25, 2005 6:03 am

Hi all,
I have a small question. As you all know if you have the POSKY A340, the strobe lights blink very unnaturally. I was wondering, is there a way to alter the effect so that it shines more realistically? The default MSFS strobe light's blink fine for me and I was wondering how I could make the same happen to the A340. I like POSKY model's and all of their other models have FS2004-ish blinking strobe lights. With the A340, I was dissappointed to see that it was a tad bit unnatural.
Cheers all,
Ashar :)

Don't have that particular file but will offer a suggestion anyway, open up the aircraft.cfg using MS Notepad and look for a section called [LIGHTS].  Look for anything in there with "strobe" in it, and replace it with "fx_strobe".  This will result in the MS default strobes being used.  If the lights have been modelled with the aircraft itself, then this won't be of any help, you would then need the model's source file to modify.  Most aircraft seem to use the lights section in the aircraft.cfg from my own experience.  Oh and make sure you create a backup copy of your aircraft.cfg before proceeding.

Alright guys...it doesnt work...Here is my entry in the aircraft.cfg file:

[LIGHTS]
Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 =  1,    0.000,   0.000,  14.800, Opensky_beacon,
light.1 =  1,    8.225,   0.000,  -4.800, Opensky_beacon,
light.2  = 4,   86.000,   0.000,   1.000, fx_vclight  ,
light.3  = 5,   18.000,  27.000,  -4.000, Opensky_wing_light,
light.4  = 5,   19.933,   8.826,  -4.368, Opensky_wing_light,
light.5  = 5,   18.000, -27.000,  -4.000, Opensky_wing_light,
light.6  = 5,   19.933,  -8.826,  -5.368, Opensky_wing_light,
light.7  = 5,   17.700,  19.000,  -1.000, Opensky_nacelle_refl,
light.8 = 5,   17.700, -19.000,  -1.000, Opensky_nacelle_refl,
light.9 = 3, -116.500,   0.000,  11.200, Opensky_nav_yellow ,
light.10 = 2, -116.500,   0.200,  11.200, fx_strobe,
;light.11 = 5,   46.250,   9.350,   4.900, Opensky_nav_yellow ,
;light.12 = 5,   46.250,  -9.350,   4.900, Opensky_nav_yellow ,
;light.13 = 5,   47.850,   9.350,   4.900, Opensky_nav_yellow ,
;light.14 = 5,   47.850,  -9.350,   4.900, Opensky_nav_yellow ,

The FX strobe used to be fx_strobeh, so I changed it to fx_strobe like CAFedm said
Any other suggestions? :'(

Woozy, change that one back. That's the strobe on the top of the tailfin. The lights that you need to change look to be 3 and 5.

However......I would say that POSKY are proud of their accuracy . Airbus strobes usually do not flash in unison. If they have similar ones on this plane my guess is they're probably right, but I don't have the aircraft.

Yup, fx_strobe or even fx_strobeh if you want bright ones (h is short for 'high' as in high power)

Roger,
I have changed those to fx_strobe and it turns out those lights blink on the engines 2 and 3. I am guessing it is another part.... :( :(

Ashar

Copy this  over your "Lights" section: (Back up your cfg file first!!)

[LIGHTS]
Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0  = 1,    0.000,   0.000,  14.800, fx_beaconh,
light.1  = 1,    8.225,   0.000,  -4.800, fx_beaconb,
light.2  = 4,   86.000,   0.000,   1.000, fx_vclighth  ,
light.3  = 5,   18.000,  27.000,  -4.000, fx_landing,
light.4  = 5,   19.933,   8.826,  -4.368, fx_landing,
light.5  = 5,   18.000, -27.000,  -4.000, fx_landing,
light.6  = 5,   19.933,  -8.826,  -5.368, fx_landing,
light.7  = 5,   17.700,  19.000,  -1.000, fx_landing,
light.8  = 5,   17.700, -19.000,  -1.000, fx_landing,
light.9  = 3, -116.500,   0.000,  11.200, fx_navwhih ,
light.10 = 2, -116.500,   0.200,  11.200, fx_strobeh,
;light.11 = 5,  46.250,   9.350,   4.900, fx_landing ,
;light.12 = 5,  46.250,  -9.350,   4.900, fx_landing ,
;light.13 = 5,  47.850,   9.350,   4.900, fx_landing ,
;light.14 = 5,  47.850,  -9.350,   4.900, fx_landing ,

That does not work...it places landing lights floating between the fuselage and the engines :( :(

As far as I know, you can change the position of the lights, but not the rate at which they flash ???

The rate of the light flashing would be in the fx file itself ;)
