Problem with Chris Alevritis DC-10

Postby Ex-RoNiN » Sat Aug 13, 2005 5:54 am

Hey, I just downloaded Chris Alevritis' DC-10 and I have a slight problem with it.

When I select the aircraft in the aircraft selection menu, it pops up an error message, saying it can't load a file called "DC10_acc.gau" - however, the file is present in the gauges folder of FS2004. This message is repeated several times, then it finally loads the simulation.

Also, he included a .dll file, which FS2004 said it didn't want to load (but I could if I wanted to).

Any idea what to do to fix this

Have you got FSUIPC?

If so then the gauge may need registering.

As for the DLL file ..... is it FSSound.dll or Gaugesound.dll>

I don't know what it is, so I guess I don't have it?

FSSound.dll, didn't want riskiing to damage anything by accepting it to load...

You usually get a warning from FS if it can't load a gauge from a previous version. Some of my FS2002 panels had to be reconfigured to use in FS9 because FS9 wouldn't load them. The warnings appear a couple of times, once when you select the plane and then again when you complete the loading procedure. So the problem is with the panel, not the plane itself. If you alias this panel to another plane you'll get the same thing happen.

FSSound is a legacy module that allows the sim to use sound effects etc. from earlier sim versions, I think. You can insert a line into the FS9.cfg (in the 'old modules' section) to make this warning go away, but I can't remember exactly how - anybody remember?

I see what the problem is now.

If I were to find an FS2004-friendly panel (or a completely new DC-10 for FS2004) I would avoid this problem, correct? And the offending file can just be deleted?

Not sure I understand the point of the legacy module though, as when the plane finally did load, the sounds were there?

Thanks for the insight :)

Maybe not all of the intended sounds, though.

Yes, once you have a panel that doesn't use the offending gauge (make sure that no other panel uses it either), you can delete it.
