a little help on landing

hi. just wanted to know, how do you make sure that the aircraft lands on the tarmac, not on the grass or something? i seem to keep missing the runway . any help appreciated!

Turn on visual flightpath until your more familiar with the game.

During the flight hit alt, then at the top hit aircraft, then visual flightpath and once the window pops up click the box to turn it on.

This will display red boxes on the runway your landing on and just turn and decend until your right in the boxes.

You will have to make sure your NAV1 radio is tuned to the runway your landing on for the boxes to show up correctly.

My advice is to do the basic flight lessons from the start.  learn to fly the nice easy Cessna 172...and then work up to more difficult aircraft.

That's how it's done in the real world and, as we all know, it's quite successful.

Want true realism in FS? Start small and work your way up.

...just as in real life lim....set the brakes turn out the lights..switch off the engine...... and go have some beers........

Seriously for a moment, lim, at the end of a flight, you can save the game and start your next trip from the same place, if you like.

Another useful trick is to set up a landing say 20 miles out, and THEN save it. That way you can come back to it any time to practise and perfect your landings - and it's also useful for trying out new aeroplanes.

Heya Lim,

When you have your GPS set for a destination airport simply look in the upper right corner.  Your distance from your destination in nautical miles (NM) will appear here.

Wow! Briefly considered taking out a PayPal account and charging for advice!

lim, the magic letters are 'DME' - standing for 'Distance Measuring Equipment'. Most VORs and ILS systems have a DME linked to them, and the distance out is shown on the panel.

Only trouble is, it's in different places on different FS9 aircraft. On the 737 (see that landing tutorial) it's shown on the HSI ('Horizontal Situation Indicator') at bottom left, along with the ILS display.

On other aeroplanes it's a separate display - usually red numerals in a separate small gauge. Beside it there will be a selection switch for 'Nav1' or 'Nav2' - tune it to whichever you're using - usually Nav1.

Just occasionally the VOR, ILS, and DME are separate installations at a given airport. In that case, get the separate DME frequency from the airport map, set Nav2 to it, and click the small gauge over to 'Nav2'.

You can also see distance to your next waypoint in the lower right hand corner of the GPS (I think it's the lower right hand corner-it should have a number followed by nm, eg. 38nm=38 nautical miles from the waypoint).

Use VOR radial or ILS (or RSBN if you have a Tu-154 or An-24)

With the smaller stuff, just point it down in a straight line over the runway and correct with small inputs (or get the An-14 and land sidewards in a crosswind)
