ATC Problems-never directed me to airport. HELP!!

Postby iggy0075 » Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:19 am

Here's the situation, I was flying from Chester Co. Carlson airport in coatsville, pa (ID 40N)  to  Provincetown Mun. in provinceton, mass. (ID KPVC)  I planned the flight using a direct route with IFR.   I was flying the KING AIR prop plane.  When flying any planned route I always use the autopilot and everything was entered correctly....

Here's the problem.
I realized this from about 14nm from the destination that the ATC did not have me decend from my original height of 10,000ft.   And the runway was capible for ILS and was pretty much in my direction, i could've just flown right in w/ out doing that much turning to line up with the runway.  I ended up flying past the airport by 20 nm just hoping atc would say something-they never did.  Also i checked the atc log and they never mentioned anything about my flight plan being cancelled.

Sorry for the long post for this problem, but hopefully all the details will help someone figure out what the problem is.

Thanks

Default ATC is not the best part of FS9. Sometimes they... forget about you (at least it has happened to me a pair of times).

Suggestions? Should this happen try contacting the ATC with some sort of terminl request, like closing your IFR plan, then when confirmation is requested if you want really to close IFR abort your request and wait, from then on ATC should remember about you.

Should this not happen close your IFR plan and open another from your current position and see what happens.

Lastly I really suggest you, if you have a DSL or Cable connection, to begin trying to fly on-line. Really default ATC isn't worth the time.

14 miles aint that bad, i was flying ksea to ksfo, and the atc sent me about  50 miles south of the airport before giving me further instruction.

What was the active runway?  You don't choose which one to land on-they do.  They might've been swinging you around the other side of the airport.

On the other hand, even I, advocate of how good FS ATC is (you try writing a perfect ATC script-I dare you), have had the occasional problem where, when the active runway is the 180 opposite of my arrival route, ATC will just simply give me a couple descent orders and then cancel my flight plan.

However, you need to be more patient buddy! 20 nm is perfectly normal for manuevering you on approach-wait a bit!  If they don't cancel your flightplan, chances are they'll get back to you. ;)

If we're about to narrate our woes with the default ATC then I can tell you that they told me to descend so late, they cleared me to land when I was at 15.000 feet on the vertical of the runway and imposed me to go around not even 5 seconds thereafter. >:(

What do you say to a someone that tells you to "go around" while you're still way over 10.000 feet? Nothing to repeat in polite company, let me tell you. :-/

It's not an issue of a behaviour being "not bad" for the default ATC. It's the default ATC that it's an issue in itself. :(

It's odd-I have over 600 hours of commops logged and I've never had any of those problems ::)

The worst that's happened to me, besides what I described above, is when the arrival runway is almost directly aligned with my course, and ATC brings me in for a straight-in; sometimes, they'll clear you to intercept the ILS at 5,000'MSL for an airport that's 300'MSL.  But even then, all you have to do is realize that they just gave you a bs order and descend to normal ILS intercept altitude, 2,000'AGL.

Text problems are normally linked to video drivers, which always create more problems than they fix ::)

With the last drivers I just got all the text in Empire Earth, which I go back and play every now and then, disappeared.

I would have to say ATC works 99% of the time for me.

One thing that is bugging me is ATC vectoring me into final and I end up being a 1/4 of a mile or less behind another plane on final so I already know I will be getting the 'go around' just before landing. I wish they would use some logic in steering everyone into the same runway final with the appropriate distance.

ILS approach hasn't kicked in a few times as well...that can bug me too
