How Many People Go For Repaints

Postby town » Fri Aug 05, 2005 6:35 am

Just thinking aloud (so to speak) but how important to the simviators out there are repaints - maybe copies of colour schemes you have been associated with etc, or are you happy just to jump into anything.

I just thought I would start this thread to collect opinions as there is no right or wrong just the way people feel. ;)

Well, I try to look for repaints of aircraft which I have flown. This April, we flew on Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300. The tail number was A6-EMU. Searching through the Avsim file library, I found the tail number and downloaded the aircraft. I then flew the real world flight from Rome-Fiumicino (LIRF) to Dubai (OMDB)...
Cheers,
Ashar ;)

I usually don't care, unless the paint job that came with the plane is really ugly.

*cough*Spitfires*cough* ;)

Not really a big repaint fan myself, I normally leave them for AI planes, but if there's a paint of a certain warbird and I don't have it...I'll give it a click and download ;D!

My thrill with the game is to go to priceline.com and just let my imagination go wild as to where I want to go.

For instance, this morning I put in that I wanted to go from chicago to new york and it spit out some Delta and various other airlines I could use. I picked a Delta and it told me a MD-80 flight 886 was the plane.

I downloaded a Delta MD-80 from AVSim.com, made it flight 886, and off I went recreating the flight.

Thats usually how I go about choosing and getting the planes that I fly.

As 99.9% of the time I am actually inside the aeroplane flying it, it makes little difference to me what colour it is on the outside... ;)... ;D...!
I would suspect that most aircraft painters/re-painters get more enjoyment out of painting their aircraft, than we flyers get out of observing the efforts... ;)...!
...or is it just me...?

...keep up the painting tho'... 8)...!

Cheers all...!

Repaints are great for screenshots though, and can make all the difference in a contest.

Just starting to make some simple repaints. Made two repaints today, a DC-3 and a 737-400 (both default FS9). Just to have some fun with it, nothing special. And it's more difficult than I thought it would be.

Crash ;)

i usually don't bother getting repaints unless the original textures are ugly, or i can relate to the new paint job in some way (planes i've flown in real life and such).....

i did go out of my way to find every availabe repaint for the 737 experience though... i wanted to have it in all possible liveries (so far i've got about 15 variations)

also, there were times when i repainted aircraft to make them into something completely different, like when i got the B221 Monomail, i realized that plane would look really good as a Scrounger from the After World (one of my alternate realities.. it's a long story ::) ), so i repainted it to make it look dirty and all patched up, like it had gone through repairs and modifications for a long time

now it looks real cool 8)

c ya

I tend to go with plane types and airlines that I have flown in, or specific airlines to the country I'm flying in. Having said that, I've also got virtually the entire British Airways fleet and a lot of the Virgin Atlantic fleet also.
