water spray whiteout

Postby DJ_Zephyr » Wed Aug 03, 2005 3:18 pm

OK, I've been enjoying my seaplanes lately, and they're a blast to play with.  The only problems I have are during takeoffs and landings.  When using Chase Plane view to set up a snazzy splashdown screenshot, the water spray gets between the view point and the plane, and the screen whites out!

I know it's a "special effect," but it's annoying as hell when trying to land or take off.  Anyone know if/how it can be disabled?

Thx in advance for any advice.

i know what you mean it can be a tad annoying at times....
your effect will probably be working from either the lights or the smokesystem in your aircraft cfg...to disable it just slash it out by placing a couple of these // in front of the effect....
better still change it for another and see if that's any better :)

It sounds like you are using an add on spray effect. Try moving your viewpoint around. Sometimes you only need to move it a fraction and the whiteout will disappear. Alternatively try a different effect file. There are a number of them around. You may also want to play around with the effect file. It can be edited in Notepad the same way the .cfg for the airplane is edited. Make a backup first and change some of the variables around to see what you end up with.

I could imagine the flare being easier, but isnt it hard to hit the center line ???

Actually, it tends to make it easier if the camera is located just right.  I use the shadow of the plane for my reference.

And the tip about choosing a different spray effect nailed it.  Now it not only eliminates the annoying whiteout, it looks better too!  ;D  Thanks for the input, guys!
