Well, it doesn't have an engine.  ;)

I suggest you take a powered vehicle up to altitude and switch aircraft midflight via the menu.

It's a lot like sex after having kids.  It's a long, slow, messy process that no one wants to do, but everyone has to.  ;D

Seriously though,  simply enter Slew mode by pressing the "Y" key, press "F3" or "F4" to get you to your desired altitude, press "Y" again to exit Slew mode, and off you go!

There may be an add-on program out there somewhere to simulate being towed up or catapulted, but I haven't seen it yet.  I think "Emma Field" by Lago might have one.

Check out this thread. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=COF;action=display;num=1119819331;start=0

This works very well. I tried it.

From the Menu get the MAP up.

Add 10 to your alt, so if its 512 set it to 522.

Set your speed to 150-200 (higher speed = more altitude)

Hold in up on your joystick and hit the OK button.

Now you will be shooting up into the air as though u have been fired from a catapult.

Gain as much height as possible then level out.

If you wish to stay airborne for a longer period you will require addon scenery that puts thermals into the sim.
