Where do you fly?

Postby sparetire » Mon Jun 27, 2005 12:18 am

I'm just trying to find out where everybody else likes to fly so I could have more ideas.   First I will give you a couple of my favorite flights.   I like to go to the Florida Keys and follow the highway (about 20ft off the ground). It's a good flight in a Zero, keeps you on your toes.    A lot of knife edge flying when your trying to follow the turns in the road.                                                                                     A friend and I flew to all 32 Pro Football stadiums.   Sometimes we could do 2 or 3 cities a day pending on how much time we had.  It took us about three weeks.   Not all stadiums are in the Sim.                                   Also I like to fly from San Diego, Cal.  down the Baja to La Paz.  This is a good flight at dusk, it's a good trip to watch the sun set and make a night landing.   Another night flight I like is from the Bahamas to Daytona Beach,Fla.  I like watching the horizon light up when you come in to shore.                                             I like flights about an hour to hour and half.   So, let me know what is your favorite one hour flight.     Sparetire

Most of the time I fly here in Holland. Made flight plans to and from every airport in this small country so I can take off and land within the hour with a Cessna 182.

Crash ;)

I began to feel a bit in a merry go round turning again and again between my favorites places in Europe so I started a round the world trip by short hops 1-2 h flight except when by the distance coast to coast it must be longer.

Then, starting from Malaga, I went to Dakar with a stop in Morocco Crossed the Atlantic there to Recife, from there Rio, Porto Alegre, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Antofagasta, La Paz Lima, Quito, Bogota, San jose and Mexico.

From there is going following the Wzst North American coast to Alaska, Russia, go South via Japan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia,

Then Back home thriug Indenesia, India, Middle East, Europe.

At the until now, I loved the approach on Rio, flighing through the Andes and the approachs, landing on those very high Airports between higher Mountains like La Paz

Like Drumlineramos, I pretty much almost always fly passenger jets from my home airports of London Heathrow and Gatwick (so 'LHR' and 'LGW' are self explanatory!).  I travel a lot on business so I always fly my next trip before I do it for real. Also fly to holday destinations and pretty much anywhere else that looks nice. Like to fly over the Alps, so Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck are favourite places to go. (I've got the add-on mesh for these areas from the downloads section into my FS9 - makes a big difference.)

I also have at least one round-the-world going on. I finished one a few weeks back west-to-east via Moscow, Delhi, Hong Kong, Auckland/Wellington, Seattle, Denver, the Caribbean and then back to LHR using a variety of modern airliners. Just started an east-to-west in vintage jetliners (VC10, 707 etc) navigating via INS - good fun. From LGW I stopped off at St Maarten (great airport, Princess Juliana!) and am heading for Tahiti via Cancun and La Paz.

The fun never stops.

My favs vary widely.

Being a Wisconsinite, I enjoy flying the UAX/Air Wisconsin CRJ 200, recreating their routes. Most flights range from 30 min to 2 hrs.

Bush flying in anything, mostly in SE Alaska and B.C.. With new terrain mesh (Holger Sandmann's  and SRTM )this area is awsome, whether sight-seeing or flying milk runs into remote strips.  Holger's Columbia River Gorge project is a must have. (Never tried this in a Zero  ;) )

Anywhere in a Beech D18   :)  Until now, mostly in Slo-Mo's BD18ECA, brought up from FS98. But now!!, Milton Shupe and Co.s new Beech D18S  :D Woo-Hoo!!!!

Last, but not least: Anything I can think of in a Huey.   ;D

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I mainly hang out in the Sierra Nevada's.  To me, Yosemite is the most incredible place on Earth, in FS or in real life.  My city flying is mainly done around San Francisco but you will find me around St. Petersburg, Florida a lot too.

For me...usually just hop in a nice (hopefully fast) bush plane, takeoff from Sacramento (KGWB, Griffin Warbird Base, my gmax & AFCAD made airport), and basically fly towards the coast and fly to where ever tickles my fancy.  So lets say I make it down to Monterey.  I'll load up FS the next day, take off from Monterey, and in no time, I'll have finished a trip around the country.  I've done a couple now, and I'm thinking instead of turning east at San Diego, just keep going south, for a nice western hemisphere trip.

But remember, just go little by little, especially in a small bush plane, leave yourself wanting more.

Mostly I'm just doing touch and gos at my home airport, Deer Valley (KDVT), Phoenix, AZ; I've got a lot of learning to do.  But I'm also doing a long-term "world tour" project (not exactly "around the world").  I've flown south from San Fran down along the Baja, and am currently parked at the city of David, Panama, about to head down into South America.  I'm taking my time with this tour, since my free time for simming is pretty limited.  I'm getting a leg in maybe once every couple of weeks, between doing training and installs.

BTW, I like flying the Baja too.  Its pretty fun with the little airports without towers, but with LONG runways, and nothing else around.
300,000 KM/S - Its not just a good idea, its the law.

Anywhere, inverted, preferably in a Spit ;D Or doing something daft and aerobatic in a Heavy (favourite place the Golden Gate in an An-225/Concorde/A-380) ;)

Just about everyone is familliar with Fozzers favourite haunts... ;D...!
The Californian western seaboard from San Francisco to Los Angeles....and all strips in between... ;)...!
...Silicon Valley, anyone...?
...in...
....small General Aviation, single piston engine'd 2-seater aircfaft, often made of bits of rag and tubes, generally at an altitude of around 1,00 feet AGL, (or less...  ;)...)...
...dropping of at grass/dirt airstrips and swopping over to a small float plane now and again for a bit of float-dipping in the many lakes and reservoirs in the area... 8)...!

For me, the fun of flying is cruising around, slowly, admiring the scenery at low level....
...after all, Uncle Bill and his crew put a lot of effort into designing it, so why not enjoy it... ;)... ;).. ;D...!

Cheers all...!

Paul...off to Santa Barbara in my Cessna 152, for a bit of boating and fishing...and admire the beach babes lying on the sand...
...Fantastic... 8)...!
