Must Reinstall, Need advice

Postby wilderobb » Wed Jul 27, 2005 1:34 pm

I'm going to have my computer hard drive cleaned out and XP reinstalled. Then I'l have to reinstall FS 2004. Which files should I save and put back in the flight sim. after reinstalling the sim. Like my aircraft, gauges, sound, and effect files. Am I missing anything. ???

If you have dial-up connection you should back-up your add-ons.

Put them on a Zip-Disk or CDRW. If it will fit, just move your whole aircraft folder to whatever back-up disk you use, along with you guages folder. Once you finish reinstalling, just move your backup copies to the FS9 folder and let them over-write what was just installed. I've done this before, and it works. The only difference was that I backed them up on a seperate hard drive.

Use a memory stick, not CD.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks folks. I'v put everything on CD's (16 so far) that I can think of. I see theres a lot of other things I needed to save as well; Internet Addresses ect. I'l have to redo my yoke, printer, mouse and all kinds of things.... I hope to be in the air tonight (7/28) but won't rush things. Also I hope my frame rate improves, not that its all that bad;about 15-20 on a good day but I'll have a lot more memory freed up. Now if I could have the Computer Dr. speed my prosseser up a little......
I hope to be back soon, Wildie. ;D
