I am at a total loss!

Postby TacitBlue » Mon Jul 25, 2005 11:14 pm

OK, heres one I'll bet none of you have ever experienced before.

Background: My secondary hard drive died. I replaced it. Nothing ran right after that, random complete lock-ups. It started with FS and seemed to spread from there. When the system is going to lock-up, you can tell because the texuters on the aircraft and only the aircraft dissapear and the sim keeps running normally for up to thirty seconds, and then everything stops. At this point, the mouse pointer won't move, and Cntrl+Alt+Del doesn't work. After this happened a few times in FS, it started doing it even on the desktop. After that happened a few times, I couldn't get to windows anymore. It gave me the screen that says "We have stopped windows from loading in order to prevent damage to your machine..." or something close to that. So, what could I do, I re-installed windows.

Now: with a fresh install, whatever problems I had should be gone, and they were for a while. Everything ran fine untill I installed FS. Now it is starting again, I have tried to use FS twice, and both times, I had the same no texture and then lock-up. The reason I am posting this here and not in Hardware, or Games and Software is because my problem only occures after using FS. If anyone has any idea what is going on, I beg you to please help me. I'm suffering sim-withdrawl.

OH MY GOD, I FIGURED IT OUT!!!! sorry for the yelling, but I've been battling this for two days. I never thought I would be happy to say this but... MY HARD DRIVE IS DEFECTIVE!! WOO HOO!! why is that good? because now I can go exchange it with confidence. It dawned on me when I decided to snoop around the FS9 folder after having used the computer for a good hour without incident. FS9 is the only thing on that drive, so it had not been accessed the whole time, then as soon as I do something with that drive- BINGO, the whole system freezes. Thank you for your potential help, but I think I have it under control now.
