FS9 Carrier Landings

Postby quincysw » Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:45 am

Is there an airport runway somewhere which is equipped to be able to practice aircraft carrier landings and take-offs.? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are using flight deck III, Try Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland. KNHK is the airport code.  Airport Info    http://www.airnav.com/airport/KNHK

Get 3Wire (freeware) and you can land for free. Biggest toy I've got on the deck is an An-225, I chopped the island in half with my wing but hey I was down 8)

I thought that was only in FS2002 (Fly from PHOG on heading of 172 degree's & it was just past the little island). I've not found it in FS9.

Could be me though.

Cheers,

TSC.

You can use any carrier if you equip your aircraft with Rob Barendregt's carrier operation package.  Look for rcbco-11.zip in the library or at AVSim.

In my opinion it's better than any of the payware addons.

From the readme file:

This package contains four features that you can add to your existing aircraft in FS2004; although targetted for military jets in combination with aircraft carrier operation, they can be added to any aircraft and used in any scenery.
Either as a set, or individually.

These features are:

- A Catapult launch gauge, allowing you perform a catapult-aided takeoff from a carrier.  Includes a launch sound.

- An Arrester gauge, allowing you to land on a carrier by means of a tailhook "catching" the carrier's arresting cables. Includes a catch sound and cable-rewind sound.

- A "meatball" HUD gauge, enabling you to perform proper carrier approaches.

- A SonicBoom gauge and effect (visible and audible), when your aircraft goes through the sound barrier at MACH-1.

Indeed, if you have 3wire (freeware) you can set up an arresting zone anywhere in the flight sim world. In fact, I set one up a minute ago (it also only took a minute) at Miramar MCAS. Some more practice here then Im flying Top Gun style to the carrier of the Miramar coast. First time in Dino's F-14, but Ive done it plenty in Daisuke's F-18...  ;D

...Even with Runway 3 which Fozzer recommended you could put a "carrier size" runway any where you wanted..........not tried it but probably using a float plane as your marker you could put one in the sea wherever you wanted...........commoner ;)
