Missing Effect Folder

Postby Bubblehead » Fri Jul 01, 2005 7:26 pm

The Effect Folder is missing in my FS9. I don't klnow how this happened probably during my copy/paste operation. All the aircraft seem to be working fine. Anyone know where it went to? Do I need to reload FS9 to get the folder? I just found out about this while i was upgrading my F15C file.

Try running a search for it. You most likely accidentally dropped it on top of another folder. I've done that before.

..lol....yeah, easy done....found mine in the config folder one time where I had accidentally "dropped" it. The sim worked ok, but no smoke and flames etc when I crashed my c172........just stuck it's nose in the deck :D You could try a crash or two see what effects you do/don't get. The files are on one of the cds in a cab file but not unfortunately all neatly packaged ..it would be  real fiddly job to get them all together by hand.Have a look in  the other folders first, see if it has escaped like Matt says.............commoner ;)

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

No luck in locating my FS9 Effects  folder.  Can I just create a new Effects folder in my FS9 and build up on it as I go along? Or is it best to reload the FS9 and start with the default effects file.  So far it's absence has not made any significan difference in the game but I'm sure I'll be missing phenomenon such as after burner, etc.

No need to re-install.

Create a new effects folder, and then copy the default files from CD1\MSGAME1.cab.

For XP, double click the .cab file, and once it is open, sort the files using the 'path' column. (Make sure you have view>details selected)  All files will be grouped together by destination. Select the files destined for the Effects folder and drag them into your new folder.

As for add-on effects, your on your own  ;)

......nice one Dave.....you learn something new every day.......I didn't realize you could sort by path from the cab files on the cd...cool....commoner 8) ;)

BTW...remember there is a texture folder inside the effects folder which holds the fx bitmaps. these are in the same cab on the CD ;).

Someone must have a nice collection of effects in their FS9 folder. Unlike gauges and sound, the effect folder must' not be very large. I have about forty aircraft in my FS9 (comparably not very many) so is it possible that I can download effects  from someone's collection? Or perhaps e-mail them to me as an attachement. My e-mail is  sorianofcjr@msn.com. Thanks.

ALROT:

Done that but no joy. I must've accidentally deleted . It does not show up when I do a search on the name "effects". I should be able to quickly recognize it since it will show unusually high amount of memory. I still think my best bet is to get the effects from someone willing to contribute.
