FSSound.dll

Postby chief1995 » Wed Jul 06, 2005 6:21 pm

Is it ok to remove the FSsound.dll, got it when I downloaded a DH2 Beaver. I had never seen it untill I installed it. Now when I open FS On the opening screen I get this message
"Flight Simulator has detected potentially incompatible aircraft or software.

File: FSSound.dll

Do you want to load this software? Click No to disable this software.

No matter what I choose my flight sim starts, but it aggravating to see this message.
Thanks,
Chief

If you don't have another airplane that needs it you can remove that module with no problems, though it would be better if you go into your fs9.cfg and add the following tag:

[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1

This will activate the module inhibiting at the same time the starting alert message.

Thanks Guys, but I haven't done that because for some strange reason I haven't been able to do that when I open fs9cfg I can't type anything on there.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Click on fs9.cfg with the right button of the mouse. From the menu select 'open with'. If there's not a choice that sends you directly on notepad from there, then select 'program'. In the windows that opens there should be the option to open the file with notepad and the option to make the file association permanent (I suggest you to opt for this, less problems in the future this way).

Thanks Ashaman, there nust be something weird going on with my computer. When I right click on the FS9. cfg page this are the choices I get :  Back, Bookmark this page, save page, send link, select all,
view page source and view page info.
I am not getting the "open with" option !

the only one that puts  the curser on the screen is  "view page source" but the curser is put right after a line of text, I can move the curser frm line to line but its alwasy right at the end the last letter.
Is this where I should put the FSSound.dll?

??? the fs9.cfg page? ???

Let's play 'understand each other'? :P

You must be out of the simulator, enter in you C: drive, enter the folder 'documents and settings', enter the subfolder with the name you log in, enter the subfolder 'application data' (you must have selected the option to see invisible folders and file to be able to find it), enter the subfolder 'microsoft', enter the subfolder 'FS9' and there you'll find the file fs9.cfg.

You must right-click on the file, not on the window. When you do right-click the file, the drop-down menu will contain the instruction I mentioned in the previuous message.

Should you have done this already and having the queer results you've said doing exactly what I described... that would not be good. It could mean your SO might be FUBARred. :-/

Let me know. I'm quite interested in this strange case of computer misdemeanour.
