How much AI can you install ???

Postby romaruk » Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:02 am

I have downloaded quite a few AI's from PAI mostly European.  Can I add them all or is that too much.  Its just that flying in and out of Alicante was a nonsense.  No planes except for a little prop.  Got to be busier than that due to its popularity.

Can you add the AI's to airports of your choice or is that pushing it a bit.  8)

Any help would be great.

Good question . . . after installing Ultimate Traffic and many PAI packets and adding FS9, AI packages I've made myself for the past two years, if there is an AI limit set by MSFS, I'm not aware of it.

The best way to get AI flying at any airport is to create them yourself using TTools.

I THINK the AI traffic total is limited by your machine's ability to track and handle computations all the traffic within 40 nm of your plane.  I think that is the"range" that the AI "exist" within.  Outside of that range (or something like that) your computer does not bother keepong active trrack of them no matter how many flights are "technically happening".

One real limit is you machine's abilty to cope with all the computations needed for thos close planes and keeping the framerates "flayable".   ;)

There might be some other coding limit... but getting the "working radius" traffic overlaoded would require really loading up flight plans out of and into one or two close airports.

Interesting experiment though.

best,

I've downloaded and installed every domestic (US) airline and quite a few of the major non-American lines from PAI.

Most of their models are pretty easy on frame-rates. If I fly into O'hare or Atlanta or any other major airport.. there literally isn't an empty gate ! Sometimes it's fun to just taxi around and see all the different planes and paints-schemes.

Anyway, it hasn't hurt my frame-rates noticeably.. even at O'hare with the scenery sliders set pretty high.
I'm running FS9 on an Athlon64-3000+, 1GB 3200 and an ATI 9800Pro-256..Hardly a "state of the art" machine.

Yep, I've never run into any limit, and I used to have a HUGE AI library.  (All from projectAI...I'm too lazy to learn the TTools stuff.)

I've never run into any discernable limit, but you will notice a performance hit as you add more and more.  Just keep going til you can't tolerate the decreased performance anymore.

Boy that's odd, I was just going to ask the same question!  I was playing around yesterday and came across PAI again.  The first time I had tried it, soemthing went wrong and nothing AI oriented showed up in the Simulator.  However, I tried again and downloaded, KLM, Southwest, America West, Continental, and US Airways, just to name a few.  I was wondering how much you could actually put ON there.  I guess I don't care as long as my frames stay where they're at.

Load it up until you can't stand the frame-rate hit for sure..

I've had the same experience as Brett_Henderson. Default traffic looked something like a scene from a Stephen King movie until I added all the packages from PAI. Now at a major airport I have to wait in line for up to ten minutes to take off. Also if you have a lot of AI traffic look for a utility called AI Smooth. It spaces AI traffic much better than default and will put AI planes into a holding pattern with fewer go arounds.

I have just used the new installer.  It allows you to select where all the files will be placed so you can remove easily.  If you select Custom install and then Change, you select "suffix will be PAI (airline name)", it will be placed in the fs 2004 world scenery and then in the PAI folder  in the main FS9 folder.

I have also downloaded the new remover software as well.  Haven't tried it yet.

I have looked for this AI Smooth but can't find it.  Any links would be great.  Oh,  the AI is now top notch.  Loads in the air.  Fantstic.
