Unfortunately, I have to say that i'll shoot with the 2d panel.  You see, my computer is ever so slightly below par in the RAM area, and frame rates can be a real hassel.  Virtual cockpit's have never really fancied me, because I'll end up watching them as a slideshow!

Also, I'll usually get a little bored flying as high as I do, and I'll gaze around the plane in spot.

Usually 2D and VC, if one is availible, and sometimes take a look around in spot view once I am in the air  8)

Both 2d and VC.  Usually 2d, as everything is instantly in my grasp.  While cruising along or landing, i sometimes prefer the VC.

If I'm doing "real" flying, I use the 2d panel.  But 90% of my sim time is for screenies, so I spend a lot of time in spot.

VC.

I hate 2D panels. Its like looking at a flat board with guages.

I do spot view when I want to enjoy the outside details of an aircraft, so between spot and VS they make up about 75% of my flying. The other 35% is on long hauls when there is a wing view. I love wingviews and being a virtual passenger

Taxi - VC

Take Off - 2D

High and Low altitude - Toggle between all views

Landing - 2D

Spot/Chase view lets you see the superb looking aircraft and the great  scenery and lets you pan around and zoom as desired.

To fly accurately  however,  I always use this view with custom mini -panels opened up along the bottom of the screen with the basic flying and engine instruments. Recently I have added trim wheels and throttle/mixture/prop quadrants to the set up and for helos I also use a radar altimeter.

To navigate I open up a mini-GPS and place it out of the way in the top right hand corner.

The main panel view I find  next to useless, but the virtual cockpit can give a passable impression of being in the real cockpit, but when zoomed out to give a wide enough and realistic  view you need to open up the  mini panels again to enable you to read the instruments. It would help realism and ease of use if the sim had been designed in VC to snap back to centre view after a pan "sideways glance" as it does in main panel view.

This shouldv'e been a mulitple answer poll. Anyway, I personally prefer Mini-Panels and the VC when it's available.

I mainly use the 2D cockpit, 'cos thats the view which gives me constant access to all my controls, instruments and radios, etc... 8)...!
I manually control my starter/mag switch, lights, propellor, mixture, flaps, trim, undercarriage, instrument settings, radio tuning, etc, etc, all from the 2D cockpit, something which can't be done from the other views...  ;)...!
All the time I am flying I need constant access to all of the above, as would a real pilot.

I use the numpad keys (or hat switch) to obtain external left/right views from the cockpit for general observasion, and turning base, finals, etc....

That is the sort of cockpit arrangement I see before me in the real aircraft...!

The only slight advantage I find of using the VC view is to (sometime) see the propellor(s), and to scroll around the cockpit, (and to experiance spacial confusion!)... :o...!

As far as I remember, little or nothing can be controlled from the Virtual Cockpit view... :'(...!

And the remaining views indicate that your harness has failed and you are sat outside on the nose/engine cowling...:-[...!

...so I go for the 2D cockpit...D...!

Cheers all...!

Paul....testing mags, setting altimeter, etc, setting trim and flaps for take-off, tuning radios..etc... ;)...!

I like the 2D panel. I sort of think of it as two seperate views- out the windscreen, and looking at the panel. I've never felt like I was really in a cockpit while using a VC, but it is cool, and I'll switch to the VC occasionally just to look around. One thing I find particularly annoying is the "photo realistic" 2D panel. Real photographs just don't fit with simlated scenery.

i never use the 2d panel... i'm a DVC maniac ;D

every now and then when i'm cruising or landed i spot around the plane, but i never use any view other than the VC for piloting...

sometimes when i make a good landing or something cool, i use the instant replay function to watch it from spot view
