Airplanes that sway while taxing?

Postby garymbuska » Wed Jun 29, 2005 12:51 pm

Hello all I have noticed a couple of planes that when you taxi around a corner the plane tilts in the same direction of the airplane? Is this a contact problem? The wheels appear as if they are on the ground but not sure, They do this at any airport so I am thinking that this is a contact point problem but not sure. Any one else experience this problem. Thanks for any replies

Are you talking about the AI aircraft or your own.  I have experienced a similar problem with the AI as they taxi, sometimes they begin to sway from side to side and then smooth out.

You could be right with contact, but I am going to look further and if some else has found it out, please let us know.  Good Luck!!!!

Sounds like plain old weight transfer to me.

10-20 kts is the norm for taxiing, except when turning corners.  Slow down to less than 10 for that.  No need to rush it.

You wanna see some corner-swaying? try taxiing with the XB-70. Its like driving an enormous bus.

Ok guys, you have to look out for some of the AI's.  They will pass you and then start jigging about for a short while.  No substances taken LOL  ;D

That happened at Alicante.  ;)

What I am talking is with regular aircrft not AI  when you turn around the corner the wing tries to turn into the ground.
And my taxi speed is not that fast it looks like the plane is riding on air yet I see the wheels roll.

It seems unlikely that you could get the plane to bank if you're going slowly, but are you just using rudder to steer, or are you using ailerons, too?
And if the plane isn't touching the ground, that might indicate a problem with that model. do all your planes do this?   ???

I use rudder peddles to steer with and it is not all of my planes that do this.
One is a B747 I think it is from POSKY but not sure, I also have a airbus 320 that does the same thing, it looks really weird when you go around the corner the wings dip in the direction of the turn. Speed is not a factor here.
Even if you stop in a middle of a turn once you start moving again the wings dip in the direction of the turn.
There may be other planes that do this but not to many I think it is mainly the big aircraft.

Try taxying the Super Cub with tundra tires some time.  :o Depending on the airplane you may have to almost stop to make a turn.
