Glideslope rings.

Postby chrisco17 » Wed Jun 29, 2005 5:01 am

I'm curious, since I like to try different types of aircraft, and they all fly differently, is there any way to turn on the glideslope rings that are in the training lessons to fly through to get used to landing a new plane?
I had to practice touch and gos with my Blue Angel for weeks before I got it right  ::)

Tune in the Instrument Landing System and then press 'Aircraft/'Visual Flightpath', chris. I find that 'Rectangles' are best.

Even though you have the ILS on, there's no compulsion to use it - you can still fly the approach manually if you want to, with the guides helping.

This will take you through the whole procedure.

Nav, I tried that link and it leads to "the best of FS9" forum. Is it supposed to lead to a Tutorial?

This is the landing tutorial.

When I was learning precision approaches, I used the 'Yellow Brick Road" type for Visual Glidepath.

Sorry chris, thanks JRoc - copied the wrong link. Edited.

chris, on the general subject of perfecting your landing technique, there's a lot to be said for saving an approach flight about twenty miles out, and flying it again and again for practice. Cuts out the 'variables' and helps you concentrate on your technique.

Later it comes in useful for trying out new aeroplanes as well.

Thank you JRoc for the correct link.
Thank you Nav for yet another great idea. Saving the flight seems like the smart thing to do.
I am going to be following your tutorial to learn to land correctly. I've been "wingin' it" since I got FS, but I think it's time I learned the right way.  ;D
