OMI beacon sounds

Postby alb469 » Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:34 pm

How it happened is a mystery to me but the normal outer middle and inner marker sounds have gone, but once in a while we get what sounds like a tinny telephone ringing sound. How do you get the originals back? Has anyone else had this happen? ??? 8)

I think its normal, by default the marker beacon audio output is set to off.  Ensure that the Marker Beacon switch is set to on in your aircraft's audio panel (usually beside the radios) if you want to hear the noises.
Cheers,

..mm....maybe this is not your problem but you have to click this MKR switch to hear the marker audio. The actual files are in the sound folder and you should check them out....INNERMK.WAV  MIDDMK.WAV and OUTERMK.WAV .if you have deleted them or they are corrupted you will be sure to find them on one of the cds.........commoner ;)

My mkr switch is on, it is always checked after startup. Guess  the wavs have somehow been corrupted. Has anyone ever modified these wavs and uploaded them to an FS site? Or any idea on what cd they are on. Thanks for any help.

I've been wanting to ask this for years*, and now is the right time! What are the OMI lights for?

Thanks commoner will give disc 2 a look. You are correct about the beacon lights and sound. They each have a distinct tone and by the time you hear the inner marker and you cant see the end of the runway you are in a heap of trouble. Cant recall the exact distances each one is from the end of the runway but the outer is about 5 t0 7 miles out

Anyone who uses FS Navigator will see the markers on the GPS map.
At KSFO the marker distances are as follows:
Outer: 11.8 miles.
Middle: 9.2 miles.
Inner:   9.1 miles
