That might be a good idea , but it would be bad for some people because the world has diffrent langages and accents. It will probably be possible in the future since VR is in it stages of devolopment .

Wow, this topic kind of took off. and thanks everyone for their posts, MattNW hit it right on the head, i have played with MS' version of voice recognition and that just lead to saying the key you want pressed or a special word that you assigned for the key you want pressed. The proplem with all that is obviously the menu for ATC is never the same. So saying "cessna14b traffic in sight" might be option 2 or even 3 or 4. I have signed up with vatsim as well as ivao. This whole project I am doing is for my dad for fathers day. He is a new real pilot and I want him to be able to use MSFS as the real thing, and I want him to be comfortable while using it. (a bit safer and cheaper than learning everything real world). Im not sure if speach buddy can conquer what im trying to do or if it is the same as MS VR. Im going to look into VOXatc directly after writing this post, however it is correct that I want to be able to interact directly with MSFS' ATC

In that case if you have an internet connection that can handle it then VATSIM and other "Live ATC" sites will be perfect for your dad. Just make sure you let them know that he's a student pilot in the RW and they'll help him all they can.

I just check out VOXatc. It's a little pricy but I think I'll download the trial and see what it's like. Only choice I have with a connection that hits 38kbps on it's good days.  :P

Then there are those like me who would probably get kicked ofdf the VatSim servers because I have very little idea of what to say and when to say it, and most I have heard take it too much like real life and want you to be perfect with everything instead of just enjoying yourself

No ATC but if you want to fly online you might want to try Bush  Net. It's an online server for bush flying. Very informal and some users have Voice programs to chat while flying. At least you won't get yelled at for landing off runway.  I've used creek beds myself.  ;D

http://bfu.avsim.net/

Go to the forums and there's one for Bush Net server that will get you started flying online. Fly anywhere you want. Land anywhere you want. Only rule is that if you are landing at a regular airport or grass strip you should call "Downwind", "Base" and "Final".

A bunch of us even spent one evening skiing with Bill Lyons 1934 ski guy.  ;D

Well after tinkering w/ speechbuddy i think ive put together something very usefull, as i stated before about VR understanding a part of the phrase for the option were looking for in FS ATC. It is still a work in progress but thats exactly what im doing. ive got it so when im contacting clearance delivery and say "point magu clearance delivery, cessna november 5 5 1 4 bravo, ready to copy i f r clearance to fallon muni" it recognizes "ready to copy i f r" and selects option 1 for me. i dont know if this could be something anyone else is interested in but i know its a really big thing for me which i would also be very willing to put out there for others if any interest is shown. NOTE: i have noticed a lot of people detered from speech buddy because of the lack of quality in the product (it doesnt understand crap) however i have had experience using VR before at naval ATC school. it took 3 days 6 hours a day of nonstop training for the VR to understand very select words. therefore all i can say is its going to take a long time to train this larger system of VR. what does everyone think?

SaVas: I found the Vatsim controllers friendly and helpful- they go easy if they know you're new. Also, you should know basic ATC after playing FS. :d

LOL Tom, I pay attention to my flying and just hit a button on my keyboard when ATC says for me to do something. I dont pay much attention to it.

just to keep everyone updated on this little project of mine if anyone was interested. ive been working w/ the commands on voice buddy (which is free i believe on this website) i deleted all the commands that come w/ the program and started fresh for just the atc commands. ive made it so it recognizes maybe 75% of the phrases used w/ ATC. im working on adding the rest still. i wish i had more time to work on this, im having a lot of fun w/ it.

questions. does anyone know how to:
1) make the atc window active while it is invisable
2) make it so the game wont automatically change freqs or squak by selecting a certain command from atc

looking at editvoicepack i have to believe it is possible to remove the command or the action taken by the command to remove the way it changes freqs

with this just training the VR should help. i also believe there are langauge variations for VR. havent really looked into that though

Sounds good, are you going to release it when it's done? Good luck with the work ;)

I've always wanted to try VATSIM... but I have no idea how to get it to work.  I haven't tried in a while, but I remember being confused and just giving up after a while.

In game voice recognition is very possible, playstation 2 game SOCOM: US Navy seals uses it already. You use a headset to give commands to your squad, of course there are probably less than 100 commands to give. A flight sim would be thousands of words to put in.

As a matter of fact it isnt as large as you might think. I'm almost finished with IFR commands for ATC and its only 60 lines. The VR doesnt have to recognize the whole phrase, just particular parts. I have decided to try to use fsuipc (or WidevieW if i cant figure out how to do it with fsuipc) for the ATC aspects of the game. that way i can have the actual view in front of me completely clear while still being able to work with ATC.

Also for all those who are wondering. The reason for not going to VATsim for live ATC is because of the lack of control. looking at the program it seems to be that ATC is only provided in limited area. For obvious reason of coarse, but i want to be able to fly anywhere and have control with no problem.
