Starting over...

Postby Wing Nut » Thu Jun 16, 2005 11:42 am

Well, after two years of flying FS9, a hard drive failure is causing me to start over completley from scratch.  Brother is THIS going to be fun...  ::)

Oh that is so annoying. I have done amazingly well in that I have not needed to reinstall FS9 for at least 6 months now! :o I must be getting the hang of the downloads! Prior to this I almost needed a reinstall every few months. ::)
Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 2GHz
GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2) DDR2 6400C4 800Mhz
GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
2 x 22" monitors
200GB Sata
Be Quiet! Straight Power 650W

Kevin, I am in the process of re building my entire machine since the upgrade.
Luckily, I am very meticulous when adding new add ons and have made a list of installing all the main sim stuff.

As I follow each numbered addon, there is a folder in an external that matches. I just add each and cross off when it is installed.

It has made "managing" and adding all my add ons very simple.

I learned this from a similar experience.

Here is a copy of some of my add ons and how they are listed.

FLIGHT SIMULATOR INSTALL SEQUENCE

1.      Hotas Cougar Joystick Software                        CD
2.      Pilots FS Global World Mesh                              CD
3.      MY World Land class                                    Priority Folder
4.      FSScene World all 4 seasons                              Priority Folder
5.      FS Gen Rails roads streams.                              Priority Folder
6.      Airport Enhancer                                    Priority Folder
7.      FS2004 No CD File                                    Priority Folder
8.      New Enmap                                          Priority Folder
9.      Spotlight replacement                                    Priority Folder
10.      Strobes Sequence                                    Priority Folder
11.      Water Zone by Bill Lyons                              Priority Folder
12.      Water depth file                                    Priority Folder
13.      Detailed Taxi & Runways                              Priority Folder
14.      FSUIPC Module & Update                              Priority Folder

That certainly lot's of payware...

LOL, that is only a quarter of it!
It does not include over 50 payware aircraft and MANY of the scenery add ons.

Like I said, that list is my main REBUILD, mostly utilities, must have sceneries and really the foundation of my simulator.

It's infectious.  You should not have chatted with me.  The ICQ virus strikes again...  ::)  ;)

For the record, I took this 30 gig drive (I thought it was 40) and partitioned 3 gigs off for the pagefile and the rest is for FS9.  Gonna have lots of breathing room now!  :)

I've had three crashes in the last two months. I've got reinstalling everything down to about 2.5 hours.
What do computers and air conditioners have in common?Image
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

hmmm, I've been running pretty good since last august when I formatted to clean up some messy isntallations of a bad program....

all files are backed up twice a week just to be safe though.. ;)

I've created a slipstreamed boot cd set as well, so I can pop each cd in and it will isntall all of my programs, drivers, etc automatically! :) no messing around with the disks, and product codes, they are all stored on the cd! Simply the best way to go... :)

I did this with my laptop as well and it can be up and running in 27 minutes! ;)
