.....well I look at the exterior modelling first and never fly on VC so that is not important to me

I look for a fully functional V.C., Sound,Textures Ect. I figure that if somebody spends the time on a first class V.C. the rest of the aircraft is most likely just as good. I dont use the V.C. much but it's a sign of good things to come. Also an arcraft with support from others is a good thing to keep in mind. A good example would be the excellent FRANCESIM --- EUROCOPTER EC 120 COLIBRI  with Auto Pilot and Hoover control installed. It don't get much better! Now, if I could only land the thing right.... I look for details. I like a detailed vc and hardly every fly on 2D panels as I personally find a 2D panel boring. I love a photoreal exterior.

One thing I have come to really like lately is freeware or payware addons that when the plane is shut down the pilots disappear and either a cockpit windows cover appears, or there are chocks and other things that show up.

Yeah jared, I do the same. If the files are scattered in bits everywhere it is terribly annoying. I downloaded teo big files recently. One needed payware from a site  >:( and another was a demo of a place that didn't exist! >:(
I can't be bothered with planes/scenery if it is in a mess. I don't think it is very considerate either of the designers. No-one would hand a meal to someone, yes even for free, all in a disgusting mess. PLus people clever enough to make these packages would know how to make an easy file!

I like them to be complete! and for moving control surfaces - then if they look real nice that's a bonus, but it has got to be all there ;D

Quality textures and a nice panel, a VC being a definite plus point.  :)

I look for naked women painted on the cowling around the Merlin engine ;) ;D
Failing that I look at its lack of suitability as a stunt plane and then go and do some stunts in it 8)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

I look for good flight dynamics. If it handles nicely, then it dosn't matter what it looks like IMO. I mainly fly with the 2D panel, but a good VC is nice for looking around. Sound isn't that big of a deal to me, as long as it sounds like an airplane, and a piston sounds like a piston, a jet sounds like a jet ect..

I gotta agree, flight dynamics are the most important.  Then the panel (2D) has to be complete and functional (like having working IFR equipment, NAV/GPS switch, all that).  I'd consider repairing a messed up panel if I liked the plane in all other respects.  Sometimes though, I'll download a plane, take one look at the panel, and toss it.

I look for 4 things in an addon:

1. Visual model - proper level of reflections, attention to visual detail, etc.
2. Sounds - quality and accuracy
3. DVC - does it have one?
4. Panel - photorealistic [none of that hand-drawn type]

I usally look at the model first. If it looks good or there's a good repaint that makes it look good then I'll give it a test flight. Next is the handling, sounds, panel and VC (I very much prefer a virtual cabin if possible. If it flies nicely (read realistic) and has enough of the other stuff that I don't end up spending a month fixing all of them then It's in.

I had one airplane that looked like a piece of s*** but found a repaint that made it a totally different beast. It had great handling and a decent VC but the wierdest shade of green I've ever seen. It was supposed to be a military cargo airplane. The repaint I found gave it a shiny but slightly worn aluminum look that set it off perfectly. It's one of my favorites now for cargo hauling. Really the thing looked like the designer put textures on it as an after thought.
