Internet-connection

Postby z1010 » Sun Jun 12, 2005 3:59 am

Hi all.

I like to fly with real weather. But most of the time I get the message that my Internetconnection does not work (actually: it does, but not in FS9); sometimes I have no problems and I can download real weather.

Anyone an idea what this can be?

Thanks

Are you using a firewall? If so , what one are you using? you may have to pen a port to allow access to the weather server.

This is strange because I can't access real world weather either!
I only got Broadband during the week and it was loading the weather fine then, but now all I get is an error message.
I'm not sure where the weather info originates from but perhaps they have a problem their end? I've tried with the Firewall turned off. Same problem. >:(

The error message reads;

"An error occured while downloading Real-World Weather. Please check your internet connection and configuration and try again".

I've checked my connection and all appears ok.

Bit of a worry..

Is your internet running through a proxy server or gateway? Is all other internet browsing working as normal?

Not as far as I'm aware.
Is there a way of checking?

Is your modem connected to your computer through a network card or a usb port? is the modem in bridge mode or are you authenticating from your modem? What brand of modem is it as some have a built in nat firewall.

Blimey... ;)
I have a BT voyager 205 adsl router connected to the pc via a usb port.
The firewall is the standard Windows XP firewall. I also have command anti virus installed, but as already stated, it was working ok last week.
Everything else seems to be working fine. ???

Try running it directly from the modem without the hub, they can interfear even better would be to connect a cable from your network card if you have one to the modem. Is your isp getting authentication (Username & password) from your modem or your computer?

Ok...

My modem card is only 56k and therefore won't support the broadband which I've had since last Tuesday, and is no-longer connected (other than physically).
The authentification, which is for my browser only is on the pc. I'm assuming the router has it's own authentification (in fact I've just checked the documentation and it only requires a pre-programmend user-name and no password.) When I'm trying to download the weather I don't have the browser open (I have tried that though) but as Broadband is connected all the time the router is on I shouldn't need the browser.

Zaphod ??? ???

I have just checked the BT website and found no documents relating to the installation and setup of your modem. i use a netcomm and is conected to the computer via a network LAN card which is different to a modem card. the modem setup can be  accessed using an IP address Eg: 192.168.0.0 the ip address will be in your setup instructions and your username and password is actually on your modem so you are automaticly connected as soon as you turn on your modem. you will need a password to access the modem this is in the manual and should be changed once you have set it up. If you know where i can get a copy of the manual i would like to read it and see if i can help you further. if you have a pdf copy you can send it to me at born2fly@ozipilotsonline.com.au i am not familier with your brand of modem so it is hard to know without reading the book.
thanks Allen

Allen.

Thanks for the help so far. :)
To call what I've got a manual is a little optimistic! It is just the sleave that the software CD arrived in.

I gather that all of the "advanced user" settings are web-based so I'll take a look.

What I still don't understand is how it was working early last week.

Thanks again for the help

go into your browser and type http://192.168.1.1  to access your modem enter the modem username and password to access (Not your internet username & password). Read manual carefully before making changes. It maybe on the CD in PDF format. if you stuff it up there is always the reset button on the back of your modem to restore defaults and start again. My advice would be to get a network card instead of the USB connection it works better and get rid of the USB hub. Best of luck Allen
