Movie in Virtual Cabin

Postby Hai Perso Coyone? » Mon Jun 13, 2005 3:20 pm

Hello all,
Don't know where to post this, but in case I'm wrong, I'm sure the good mods here will be glad to move it. My question:
Is it possible to attach a full movie in TV screen in an FS aircraft. For example, can we attach a movie say for ex. Star Wars to a viewing screen on Meljet's 777. If you don't get what I am saying, have a look HERE. As you can see, there is a movie playing on the "TV" in the cabin. Can this be recreated in FS? Just wanting to know this because it would be fun to watch the movie in the Meljet 777 while flying long haul...

Best,
Ashar ;)

Play a Windows media file clip and then shrink it down to about a 1cm square and then watch what you have. I think you will find even if it is possible it would not be possible to watch, or make out what the film is. Also running a movie clip on 20 or so monitors in a cabin view will no doubt reduce your frame rate to single figures.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I downloaded a view ages ago where it had a movie showing in the cabin, on a big screen at the front. Not sure exactly how it was done, but basically the movie was saved in a folder frame by frame. It, if i remember rightly, was kinda stupid, like a guy getting run over by a car, lasting only 30 seconds, but better thatn nothing lol. ;D

Scoot your TV up next to your computer.

I think that's just a texture. If the model includes a Virtual Cabin with a screen you can modify the textures with whatever movie clip you want but it's only stll. Haven't heard of anything that lets WMP or any other video player to run inside the sim.

There is a CD player if you want. One of my favorites. Love to fly to some good tunes. Try a night flight to "Pink Floyd" or aerobatics to some "Rush" or "AC/DC".  ;D

It's just a guage. You have to install it into your panel but it's pretty nice. It allows you to change volume, F/Rev tracks and even open/close your CD tray door from inside the airplane. Definately a must for the long over water flights.

That's seriously some good advice Mark ;D ;D

I was wondering this when I was flying commercial. Now since I fly GA, this question popped into my eyes. I still like a few old warbirds such as the Spitfire. I have the RealAir Spit and simply love it.

Cheers all,
Ashar ;D ;D

CD/MP3s are played in FS by Flash plugins for the gauges. Flash can also play embedded movies, so putting a Flash file with an embedded movie in a gauge eg a TV screen is possible in theory.

This would of course involve programming the gauge and converting the movie then embedding it in the Flash (=huge filesize, big framerate hit) which would probably then be of unwatchable quality anyway.

I don't think it's possible in fs2004 unless M$ came up with an add-on to make it possible..but if you insist, then you have to add the ENTIRE movie in the cabin texture frame by frame (that's alot of frame)...

Let's pray it possible in FS2006/FS10

Um... not to be a jerk or anything, but the burning question on my mind is WHY? This is flight sim, if you want to watch a movies, then you have a TV. Again, not trying to insult anyone.

Because sometimes for some of us its fun to play the virtual passenger instead of the virtual pilot. On long hauls I will often hop in the passenger area of planes with them or move back to wingview so i can do what I normally do when Im on a flight and look out the window.

Hiya SaVas,
That is the same thing I used to do when I flew long-haul ;D ;D

Cheers,
