Quick AI question

Postby Ex-RoNiN » Thu Jun 09, 2005 2:11 pm

I downloaded an AI package simulating the flight plans of the Greek Air Force in Greece (duh) but I am having some trouble installing some airplanes, or others I can not find at all.

If I install the flight plans anyway, will the game crash if it can't find the right aircraft or will it just skip those lines?

I am pretty sure that if you load up the traffic file and it can't find the acft. it calls for, you will more than likely crash to desktop. Or grow a third eye.    ;)

I would suggest using the PAI flights and acft. They have and installer you download first, then go download the "Packages" you want.

Packages consist of the flight plans for the AI acft. and the acft. of the livery you downloaded. You can get as many, varying types, etc. as you want. The installer installs it for you.

I use it and loaded up tons of AI flights and no problems.

Doh, not good :( Will it crash on not finding the correct model, the model name in the config, or the actual texture name/model name combination?

Alas, PAI don't have that particular package for download. This Greek Air Force package I found on a Greek FS2004 website and it has hardly any aircraft in it, but many many repaints, some of which are for models that I can't even find on AVSIM! So it's quite a pain finding them all...I may have to end up deleting some flight plans for particular aircraft, I loooked into the file and it doesn't seem too bad, as the sections for the individual aircraft types are specifically marked.

So I download their standard installer package (which installer am I looking for if I want to install by airline?) and then download the file associated with a particular airline? This will provide me with both airlines and retextures?

Thanks for the link :)

It's only a guess on my part as far as the problems you will see if you upload an AI traffic plan and it can't locate the acft. associated with the traffic.bgl. But I can't help but believe you will have problems.

Yes, there is an Installer program at the PAI site. That you need. Hit the "Official Files" link on their page, then at the top of the new page you will see "PAI Installer and Special Packages". Hit that link and download the installer.

Below that you see "Airlines", "Cargo", "Historical" and "Military".

You can download any of those packages for the installer. You may want a combination of all those. Some military flying around along with airlines and cargo. Maybe a few historical.

Just drop the package into the installer program and it loads everything up correctly. Then go fly.

This installer might even load up other traffic files too along with the acft.

There is also another way to load up or make traffic files for acft. you want to have as AI. I don't do that sort of thing..........I keep it simple and stick with the PAI stuff, it's enough for me. But others know how and make some of their favorite acft. into AI and make traffic plans for them so they can see their flying around with them.

Someone will probably steer you in the right direction for that.

To properly add ai aircraft and change flightplans etc...you need   TTOOLS by Lee Swordy, and you can download this from Project ai or many other places..... TTOOLS disassembles the FS2002/2004 AI traffic bgl file into three text files. One lists the aircraft you have assigned to AI use, the second all the airports your AI traffic fly to and from, and the third the flight plans themselves. By editing these text files and then reassembling the AI Traffic.bgl, you can enter new aircraft, add new or change the airport destinations and either add new flights, or change the aircraft your current flight plans have assigned to them. TTOOLS comes with full instructions, and since it is quite a labour intensive and complex way of working with AI, it is important you read the instructions carefully, and always back up your original files in case something untoward happens. TTOOLS does require a bit of patience , but  worth the effort....commoner ;)

Don't worry. If the sim can't find the plane that's in a flight plan, or an airport it just ignores it.

It WON'T crash.
