Out of memory?

Postby jrpilot » Thu Jun 02, 2005 5:33 pm

Anyone help...I got a message saying the computer is out of memory?

I never had this problem before, I could run Flight Simulator for a day if I wanted to but now after a 1:30 hour flight it says this?

Odd, 2gb should be more than enough...

Do you close unnecessary apps like messenger, antispyware, etc. and disable antivirus when playing FS9?

You should if you don't...

Do you have the page file (virtual memory) enabled?

With 2gb you shouldn't have problems unless the page file is disabled.

Worst case scenario: bum RAM

Have you tried a restart and then flown for a bit to see what would happen?

I had this happen one day while I was running microsoft word writing a letter.

Restarted it and haven't had a problem since then.

There could also be some sort of spyware residing on your system too that would use up a lot of resources.

More than likely it is the same as mine and is a weird little one time glitch.. ;)

I forgot to ask though, does it happen every time now? Or was it just a one time thing?

It seems to happen every time now, I did two flights so far and it did happen both times.

I don't turn my firewall off, I will try that.

I will run my spyware finder tonite

Thanks for the replies

I had that problem before, but only with CFS3 [after hours-worth of missions].

My specs:
Two P4 2.4ghz processors [I don't know what the H377 the second one is for]
512mb ram
64mb ati radeon 9700
40gb hd [stock drive]
80gb hd [external drive - bought separatly]

The page file [PF] of my standard drive is at 768-1024mb. When the problem came up, I set up a new page file on my external drive at 768-2048mb. That has helped a bit with my computer's performance.

Another thing to check is whether this is happening with a specific airplane or scenery. I've had the out of memory error when a bitmap is too large or the wrong dimension for the texture when playing around with modifying sceneries and textures.

I also had this problem several times. In my case it was always caused by two things.
1. A bad addon scenery or aircraft.
2. Defragmentation. I had this problem recently and was about to reinstall my flightsim. I decided to give defrag a chance.. and suddenly the out of memory thing was gone.
