I have read and posted to many topics here and have occasionally ran across a reference to FSUIPC.

At this point all I know is it is an addon for FS9 and is required for my EMB-170 panel but other than that I have no clue as to its purpose our use.

The gauge in my panel is a radar screen but never shows contacts or weather so rignt now its pretty much useless.

Can some of the wizards of SImviation please cast the light of knowledge upon my befuddled and dark mind as to what this program is used for?

FSUIPC is an add-in for Microsoft Flight Simulator which provides an interface for other programs to read and write all sorts of pertinent data relating to the simulation, and in many ways even to control the actual process itself.

It is an essential ingredient in many add-on FS programs, and, in fact, may be installed on your system by any one or more of them already. For many such programs you do not need to actually purchase FSUIPC. That deal, for their access, will often have been already done by the add-on program makers.

But, in addition, FSUIPC contains a number of useful features for you, the Flight Simulator user, features that can assist you setting up the best simulation environment and making the best of what you have. It can do this because, by its very nature as an interface program, as a "puller of wires and pusher of switches" on behalf of external applications, it is also in the best position to help you do the same

Note that FSUIPC is free to download but must be paid for to be fully functional.  Many of the functions work without registration and many addons (probably including your radar gauge) can be separately registered for free.

Although I think I'm correct in thinking that the registered version is included in some payware add-ons...

Possibly.  Some gauges and applications come with separate registration codes that are applicable to those gauges/applications only.  A fully registered version of FSUIPC does not require seprate segistration of these gauges/applications.

When I mentioned the radar gauge I had in mind Eric Marciano's TCAS radar gauge (f16.gau).

There is a list of "free" gauges and applications at the FSUIPC website.  Installation will take you a few seconds, it will cost you nothing to try it, and it will probably fix your radar gauge problem.

So this add-on is quite a valuable little tool.

Thanks to everybody for lighting the way to knowledge.  I will see what I can do with this now that I know what it can do.

I think that any serious sim addict should have a registered copy of this program.  It is the "Swiss Army Knife" for FS2004.  ;)

The docs that come with it are a book.
